What google trends tells us about Corona and Toilet rolls

March 15, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

Google trends! is a good tool  to do some research on what’s the buzz around in Australia,  however there is no prizes to guessing right now what is buzzing  right now – should be pretty evident shouldn’t it

Yes – so let’s see what’s trending on google, one word we know for sure that’s trending around all the world for all the wrong reasons is “corona virus”. But how does it stack up against the beer “corona” – why -just because I can!

Toilet Rolls, Corona Virus & Beer

corona graph edit

As we can see on 12th March the “coronavirus” (BLUE LINE) search is beating the socks out of “Beer” (RED LINE) at *100 Vs 2 . On Feb 15th/16th there was a bit of an anomaly where beer suddenly jumped and came close to the results for the virus search. Don’t know why- but my only thoughts are that it’s the weekend and people have beer on their mind here in Australia.

Comparison above is from last month 15/02/2020 to 15/03/2020

*100 vs 2 *Numbers represent search interest relative to the highest point on the chart for the given region and time. A value of 100 is the peak popularity for the term. A value of 50 means that the term is half as popular. A score of 0 means there was not enough data for this term.

Our next graph – Interest in coronavirus  in Australian states

corona virus vs beer state search

This state search trend does tell us that state by state we are not so much different even though we could literally be different countries. The trend lines and stats show everyone sitting at 95% vs 5% coronavirus to Beer.

However, there was one state different from all the other who had beer on their mind more than the corona virus and it was ( butt I will explain that below)

SOUTH AUSTRALIA – They scored 91%(coronavirus) vs 9% (Beer) where other states “beer”searches were just 5%

racism and beer not corona

Now that was a bit of a surprise!

We could possibly get different results with corona virus as two words, but just decided to do the comparison with Corona as one word.

Well one thing I could not escape, while doing this research was this one thing – “TOILET PAPER”.

i could not escape toilet paper

It just had to pop up on my trending screen in between beer and corona virus and it did, just like it kept popping up on my facebook feed, twitter and Instagram account for the past month.

I’m not going to elaborate on this toilet paper topic anymore (as its sh*t), ands so I will just instead give you  this Arnie meme below instead

arnie i will be back toilet rolls

Surprisingly with the toilet paper results also popped up “Italy” and “Tom Hanks” which also tells us that we do care a sh*t if celebrity’s get the flu and if Italians too.

I will rest my toilet paper spiel with that one.

Back to the beer and coronavirus

beer by state

The beer search trend got myself into a puzzle and also scratching my head, why was south Australia leading the search for beer. Good old “Maggie Beer” managed to get into the google trends beer results.! And so was the name ‘Saskia Beer’. This puzzled me!

Now I do know Maggie Beer  due to flicking through telly and watching her cook, but didn’t know who or what Saskia + beer  was  and why she was appearing in search.

Saskia, Maggie and Ellie Beer

Image from abc.net.au

I had to look further into this and found out that her daughter Saskia just passed away in her sleep (RIP), that also explained why Saskia beer death was showing up in google search so much.

That’s all for now. until later

I could not resist!

I had to do a toilet paper search to see if it is beating corona virus, this is what I got from google trends. There are more people searching for corona virus on google in comparison to toilet paper. It would really worry me if it was the other way around.

corona virus vs toilet paper

Apparently according to those graphs for comparison for searches for toilet paper NSW and VICTORIA are doing a very good job of searching online for toilet paper at 7%, while the rest of the states are behind at 6% and lower.

7 Chrome Extensions to Help You Protect Your Online Safety and Privacy

September 25, 2019 by admin 1 Comment

secure your apps on mobile

There are thousands of different extensions for Chrome. Some of them are designed specifically to make your browsing experience more secure and private. If this is something you are looking for, keep on reading, as we’re about to unveil the top cybersecurity extensions that are worth looking into. That being said, let’s cover the basics first.

These extensions will customize your browsing experience and unlock new functionalities

Some of the extensions are limited to improving the looks and other cosmetic elements of your browser. Others, however, will unlock the kind of functionality that’s not available in its vanilla version. Like a character counter for your emails or a built-in to-do list, for example. Of course, these can be enabled or disabled at any time you see fit, so you’re by no means tied to your choices.

In the world of cybersecurity, you can never be safe enough

It’s important to keep a tight grip on cybersecurity essentials, like cookie management, browsing history, password storage, etc. But thanks to the Chrome extensions, there’s no need to do it manually. You can even set it to lock all of your passwords under one master key, effectively doing away with the need to remember every single piece by heart. There’s also a plugin that disables the scripts that you don’t want to run (like those annoying ads, for example).

With that out of the way, what are the top cybersecurity extensions for Chrome?

1. Adblock Plus

Malware that gets distributed through ads, also known as malvertising, can wreak havoc on your device. Adblock not only stops them from ever loading up in the first place but also brings all the unsolicited website tracking to an end.

2. Blur

One of the best extensions for privacy. Organizing your passwords, hiding your traffic, encrypting your data – all in one little extension. If you’re not a fan of companies collecting your data for marketing purposes, this is one of the answers. In addition to that, certain social media like Facebook are known to track you even during the time when you’re not logged in, which is another thing Blur prevents from happening.

3. Click&Clean

When browsing, your device gets cluttered over time with things like cookies, temporary files, etc. This extension declutters it at the click of a button. In the end, you want to keep your browser running smoothly and get rid of any unwanted baggage – it’s also a matter of keeping your privacy protected.

4. NordVPN

In this day and age, whenever you go online, a VPN is a must. Having one available straight from your browser always comes in handy. Whether it’s government censorship you’re trying to bypass or merely caring for the safety of your sensitive data that you transfer over the web, this should be a part of every modern online surfer’s repertoire.

5. Sneekr

Your browsing history should remain a private matter, and you must do your best to protect it in the same manner you’d protect the privacy of your own home. This particular extension places everything behind a password-only screen so that no one can see it but you. Plus, it gives you the option of accessing it from anywhere you want (and even wipe it if deemed necessary).

6. DuckDuckGo

Protecting your privacy at all costs is the motto behind this extension’s design. Their search engine is known as presenting a viable alternative to Google’s search query tracking. But their Chrome extension does wonders in terms of decoding privacy policies and escaping advertiser tracking. Also, it forces encryption when you’re surfing the web, which helps you stay safe from those prying eyes some ISPs are notorious for.

7. LastPass

Too many users resort to keeping their passwords simple and easy to guess, just for the sake of convenience. Worse yet, some are re-using the same passwords over and over again, so they don’t have to remember what password goes where. Guess what? The hackers are smiling, because you’ve made their job easier this way. LastPass is a solution to the problem; by using one master password, you’ll be free to design your passwords to be as complex and impenetrable as possible without having to remember them all.

Conclusion

The extensions we’ve mentioned are by no means the end of the list, but they make for a good start. At the very least, this should be enough to get you thinking about how these can bolster your cybersecurity defenses and help protect your online safety and privacy at all times.

Virtual Reality: The Future of iGaming Technology

October 25, 2017 by admin 2 Comments

In this modern era, where technology grows by leaps and bounds every year, most industries now depend on digital advancements for continued success. This is particularly true within the gaming industry, where traditional consoles are now being replaced with innovative offerings such as virtual reality. Otherwise known as VR, virtual reality is predicted to become the most influential game changer since the internet first made online games a reality, particularly for the iGaming industry.

According to a report published by Tech Crunch earlier in 2017, the virtual reality/augmented reality (AR) market will be worth $108 billion by 2021, so it’s no surprise that iGaming developers such as Microgaming and Playtech are already investing in VR technology.

This is especially true when we consider the fact that the casino industry has managed to stay on the brink of modern technology for many decades now, often adopting different platforms and systems before its console or PC counterparts.

Of course, software developers and online casino operators aren’t capitalising on virtual reality technologies just to stay current. Arguably, the casino industry has always adapted to ensure customers receive the best experience possible. This is why land-based casino brands decided to create online presences, so that customers could reach their favourite games without having to lift a finger, never mind travel from around the world. Meanwhile, sites such as Australia’s own pokies.com made titles including slots, table games and scratches even more accessible and fun by creating multiple platforms on desktops, tablets and smartphones.

By introducing VR technology into iGaming, the online experience will become even more enjoyable, authentic and accessible than ever.

This is why a variety of gaming specialists such as GameAccount Network (GAN), Oculus Rift and Casino-VR are already focusing much of their effort on crafting VR services that will improve gamers’ experiences.

Speaking to Proactive Investors, GameAccount Network’s chief executive Dermot Smurfit stated that: “Playing authentic casino games in VR for real money will dramatically close the gap between the live gaming experience available on property and the experience available at home.”

Fortunately for trendsetters like Smurfit, headsets, VR-centric casinos, VR apps, VR glasses, VR consoles and 3D gaming tech is very much available, these companies simply need to apply them.

There are a number of sites and software systems available at this time that have done this, but they are yet to go mainstream. This is possibly due to the fact VR products are still relatively expensive to buy, especially for the individual gaming fans that the online casinos wish to reach.

According to PC Mag Australia, a PS VR headset currently costs $400, with up to $160 in accessories, while an Oculus Rift is $500 and the HTC Vive is an astonishing $800.

Thankfully, there are a number of untethered mobile VR headsets that were recently released including the Google Daydream ($79) and Samsung Gear VR ($130), but these are played using a mobile phone, which some gambling fans may not prefer.

For now, it seems as though we will have to wait for virtual reality pokies to truly come into their own. Right now, we are witnessing the first steps towards a true VR casino experience, and hopefully, the real thing will be worth the wait.
