Turn off proof reading in wordpress ( How to )

This new nifty feature  is a good addition  to  wordpress if you suffer from the TYPO disease or then simply type too fast for your own good . Word press will now proof read all those typos and spelling mistakes  and grammar as well.

And surely proof reading  will make your blog more professional. But bloody bloody Damn, i turned it on on my recipe blog  and BOOM i saw a lott of red  and so  did my wordpress proof reading app with lot of the unknown recipe ingredients immediately underline with red.

But not so easy , as this was the first time i activated it it was hard to find to tun off , with my bad memory. I forgot – Here is here you go to de-activate it – > USERS  –> YOur profile ADMIN  –> Untick Proof reading

IN SHORT

Q:When I press Update – I always get a message that the “Proofreader” has suggestions for my post. The spell check is OK, but I do not like the proofreader’s attempts to change what I have written. How can I disable this ?

ANS:

Users > Personal Settings > Proofreading.

Obiviously you can see this post is the proof of my typos and this feature not being turned on ..but soon it will be ADIOS..good luck

Backup Your wordpress blog in 30 seconds

Its really that Easy!! if  you are looking for a quick solution from word press itself to back up your blog , this is it  !! It will save you hours of heartache later if something goes wrong, But there are much more  detailed back up options available as well if you want.

Simple wordpress  export backup in xml file

The quickest way to back up your  wordpress blog is to  use the export function in wordpress admin panel itself,  under the tools section. Check the pic below

Be warned though it only back ups on post, pages and comments and does not back up the photos. You can also do a Ftp back up of the images folder  to complement this.

I wouldn’t recommend this backup options if your blog has big/many posts. I you try to back up your blog with the export feature and you have many post you can end up with a xml file bigger than 10Mb.

Get the WordPress Database Backup plugin for  a more detailed backup

A more detailed backup can be done using the WordPress Database Backup plugin shown above and below also in pic. This plug-in is pretty good as you can either choose to back up  the database to your computer ( no messing around in cpanel or hosting login) or schedule a backup to be sent regularly to email as well.

Help .. My wordpress theme is not loading !!

FOR every Blogger this is one nightmare that they really dread ( the blog getting broken  and inaccessible due to a buggy theme), the more experienced bloggers   surely would have  experienced this situation before , i suppose  and they are  quite adept at tackling this kinda situation.  So how do you fix this broken theme error?

But for most bloggers like me  or the less technically challenged  we go to Google Search on autopilot when such a things happens, looking for a SOLUTION.

This did not happen to me for quite some time now  and then it happened again this week ,when i did a review of few of one  my blogs and changed some stuff or a theme . Godamm  knows why i venture to do this !! ( when everything was working)  but its a necessary evil  in the blogging game!!

My wordpress theme is broken !! what do i do ?

I found  this nice looking word press theme that promised  a fast loading theme along with SEO inbuilt ..wow  and great features as well to match .. and i fell hook .line and sinker and uploaded it to wordpress theme folder. Guess what happens next !!

Yeh you know it !! some bloody eror that is too long to read and the  blog  is not loading up. Panic sets in… what do i do

What you will attempt  or ways to fix your broken blog  ?

Few options : Possibly this  :

  1. login to your hosting cpanel and try to reverse the update on wordpress in simple scripts or some area like that
  2. Try to gain access to your admin panel via wordpress in some  way ..but you cant ..because its F**ked ( try FTP)
  3. Try to find ways to change your  theme back to default via the hosting admin panel ( cpanel)  or then your Sql table under Php my admin in your hosting account or then via your ftp login to your word press files… still no luck.. daymm this !!!
Manually  change the wordpress themes due to blog not loading

There  is a simple way to get your blog back to working mode  ( or gain acess to the admin panel again ) if you have access via ftp to your wordpress files.

Take for example the bad theme you just changed was named “detox” . Go to  the theme folder ( via Ftp or cpanel) empty all the contents of your detox  theme folder  and move all the contents of  one of the default word press( classic or twenty ten or a good working theme) themes into that Detox folder. So you are tricking wordpress into loading detox when it actually is loading up twenty ten or whatever theme  that you moved there.

This should  get your blog atleast up and running  and you should atleast be able to login back into your admin panel and change things again and delete that  screwed up word press theme that mucked up things for you!!

UPDATE:

Plugin erors in wordpress and blog not loading

Recently while upgrading wordpress after getting the above eror, i managed to stumble into yet another plugin eror that disabeled my blog again.

I got this eror continously while trying to load the blog  “#. Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error. Fatal error: Cannot redeclare wp_get_related_posts()” .  To cut things short , what worked for me was to just  ftp into  the wordpress installation, go to the plugin folders and delete the plugin and the blog is up  and working now.

WordPress 3.1 update and New standard , Aside , gallery post format and Thesis theme

Post format wordpress 3.1, the new feature of the latest version of wordpress 3.1, updated this February 2011. If you have upgraded to wordpress 3.1 ,you should be able to see  the format button on the right of the panel “Format”, which has three options, standard, aside and gallery.

If you don’t have this post format wordpress 3.1 tab, it means your theme does not support this yet.

you will need to add a code in your functions.php file, or in Thesis, custom_functions.php file, also need to tweak some files for the “aside” option, however if you use Twenty Ten theme, this tab should be there

Aside functions, is actually putting your post without title, this is why it is stated to be a similar like face book. This is a cool feature which can tweak our files, such as sidebar.If we create an aside post using post format wordpress 3.1, you will not see the title in the home page.

The gallery option is my favorite, By adding gallery shortcode which was already available long time ago, you will be able to have a gallery page, in the post, and complete with previous and next pictures, as well as the dimension, and image details. By putting [gallery] shortcode in one of your post, and then upload some images, you will see gallery in your post. When you click one of the image, it will bring you to the one image with its details, such as size, and the file name
