How to change from Domain Blogger redirect to new GoDaddy hosting servers

Many people start their first blog at free hosting at blogger or blogpost owned by google. You can easily get a free blog set up at blogspot and get a free domain name redirected to your free blog, so that you have a www. Yourblogaddressname.com.

I recently moved one of my blogger blogs back from blogspot to GoDaddy hosting (wordpress). The domain name was with GoDaddy and the blog was at a blogger.com. I decided to transfer this blogger blog to WordPress on GoDaddy ultimate  servers.

So I will show you the process to do this (adjust domain name settings to point back to GoDaddy servers and hosting.

Removing your domain redirect to blogger.com and pointing to new blog

I will also tell you how to point your domain settings to blogspot if you are interested in setting up a new blog at blogger and want to point your domain name purchased at GoDaddy to point to your free blogger blog.

I will start in reverse order as I just transferred my blog from blogger to godaddy.

As my domain name was already with one GoDaddy a/c and my hosting account was in another GoDaddy account . This is what I did to move my GoDaddy domain pointing already to free blogger  to point o my other GoDaddy hosting account. This should work also if you are moving to a Bluehost server  or Siteground, Dreamhost or Hostmonster , Hostgator servers. ( Btw , if you are looking for a new domain name there is a current offer of $4 for a domain name – while it lasts )

Go to your GoDaddy hosting account where you will be moving your blog. Click on your hosting account. It will give you your server ip (hosting) address.

[This is to get your new server ip address from your hosting account from where your blog will be hosted now ]

NOW Go to your domain name in your GoDaddy account and click on DNS Management

You will need to adjust just two columns Host(NAME) and points to(VALUE)

Under A host> @ and under points to> server ip address eg. 43.35.1…

The GoDaddy customer service told me that change  this ip address and redirect  should work, but it didn’t , so I had to do a  few extra steps like below

Next create a Cname record for WWW

Host > www Points to > @

Eg.

Cname www record

Once you changed your IP address in the first step as given above, after a few minutes your name servers, SOA and Cname = _domainconnect should automatically get updated.

Eg

Cname _domainconnect _domainconnect.gd.domaincontrol.com

There should be various other fields in the DNS management like SMTP, POP,Mail, FAX and other fields that you don’t need to worry about changing.

Three other things that was needed for my domain name to redirect to my new WordPress blog( that the GoDaddy rep didn’t do was – as below)

Remove/Add  these entry’s  from DNS management

She didn’t remove this one (I had to do it ) – >  Cname WWW ghs.google.com

I also removed this one ( old entry was not needed)

And she didn’t add this ( I added it – already given above)  -> Cname WWW @

When I removed the ghs.google.com cname , the new nameservers from the changed ipaddress got propagated(updated to corrected ones) and when I added the [ CNAME www @ ] the domain name propagated to my new installed blog

Make Sure you added your new domain name (www. Yourblogaddressname.com.) as ADD ON domain in your hosting account before or right after you do the pointing of your domain name and install your wordpress blog as well.

NEW BLOGSPOT BLOG with Godaddy domain name SETUP

Now that we dismantled the blog that I had setup with a GoDaddy domain name earlier , we can go the process of how to set up your new blogger blog with a spanking new domain name of your own from GoDaddy.

The benefit of this method is you use google’s free blogger hosting servers and yet get a domain name with your own url or domain name (eg. www.jeffstrayablog.com)

Buy the domain name from GoDaddy (it will create your own GoDaddy account and give you DNS management page)

Got to DNS management page & at same time open your blogger blog> settings/publish (add third party domain name page)

When you enter your domain name under blog address ( third party domain settings). It will come up as operation failed as you need to add the two cnames into your godaddy dns management

You will need to get those two cname settings from blogger to add to your godaddy domain > under DNS management for it to work.

The second cname provided in pic might be different for your blogger blog. So make sure you get those details from your own blogger blog.

Click Add CNAME under domain DNS management and add both below

Host > www Points to > ghs.google.com

Host> taken from your blogger settings Points to > from blogger settings

Thats it! phew

I did mention that I took on a ultimate linux hosting plan from godaddy , I have been using them for a while and they are okay for the cost and uptime  to run a normal blog or affiliate blog. My hosting came upto $4.95 a month, but currently there is hosting plan for $1 with latest php . do check. Their Australian website offers are here.

Godaddy.com was only able to sell  Australian domains  just  a year ago after a long wait  and  they still haven’t yet been able to allow resellers for their Australian domain registration service.

Google Domain registration service that started off as Google domains  somewhere around june 2014  has now just come out of beta  and launched into the public beta program, which means many people waiting for this service  will now be able to  use the Google domains.

The new Google Domains comes with a dashboard to help users control their website. It also comes with Blogger integration to help blog posts.
