Whats new with wordpress 3.00 , WPMU and buddy press

THE GAME HAS CHANGED. WITH THE RELEASE OF wordpress 3.0 my plan to install and work with WMPU and buddy press has been taken to a entirely new level.

If you have been following my blog , my previous posts ( Part 1 Part 2 ( this one ) == Part 3 to come ) you would know that i was posting my journey to get WordPress multi sites installed on my blogs and also a review of wordpress and installation procedures and tips and advice.

With the release of wordpress 3.0 , the game has changed and now wpmu is shipped with your wordpress installation allowing you to make your wordpress blog into a multi user blog without having to go through a separate process to get multi user wordpress blog installed.

I will be dumping my previous multi user blogs to go through the installation of the New wordpress 3 and WPMU blogs with the new wordpress 3.00. so follow me as i go through this journey once again.Hopefully this time it will be quick and with less bugs and technical obstructions and problems.

Here are the new features in wordpress 3.00

WordPress and WordPress MU have merged, allowing the management of multiple sites (called Multisite) from one WordPress installation.
New default theme “Twenty Ten” takes full advantage of the current features of WordPress.
New custom menu management feature, allows creation of custom menus combining posts, pages, categories, tags, and links for use in theme menus or widgets.
Custom header and background APIs.
Contextual help text accessed under the Help tab of every screen in the WordPress administration.
Ability to set the admin username and password during installation.
Bulk updating of themes with an automatic maintenance mode during the process.
Support for shortlinks.
Improved Custom Post Types and Custom Taxonomies including hierarchical (category-style) support. (Try the Custom Post Type UI or GD Custom Posts And Taxonomies Tools plugins to see the possibilities.)
A lighter admin color scheme to increase accessibility and put the focus more squarely on your content.

Installing multi sites (network ) Like WPMU on wordpress 3.00

In wordpress 3.00 the WPMU feature is called creating network

Create a Network

In WordPress 3.0, you now have the ability to create a network of sites. To enable the Network menu item, you must first define multisite in the wp-config.php file.

Open up wp-config.php and add this line above where it says /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */:

define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true);

Notes

Giving WordPress Its Own Directory will not work in WordPress 3.0 with multisite enabled. It interferes with the member blog lookup.
You cannot create a network in the following cases:
- “WordPress address (URL)” is different from “Site address (URL)”
- “WordPress address (URL)” is used IP address such as 127.0.0.1 or port number other than ‘:80’, ‘:443’.
  - Use ‘localhost’ instead of ‘127.0.0.1’, if on local computer.

Google sitemaps and wordpress 3.00 Multiuser blogs problem

Goggle sitemaps plugins does not seem to work with the multisite installed as of now .. check this space for further news. I got this message when i activated wordpress 3.00 network ( or wpmu)

Google XML Sitemaps is not multisite compatible.

Unfortunately the Google XML Sitemaps plugin was not tested with the multisite feature of WordPress 3.0 yet. The plugin will not be active until you disable the multisite mode. Otherwise go to active plugins and deactivate the Google XML Sitemaps plugin to make this message disappear

Incidentally i did have a problem with the wp-config not saving in its original format after applying the multi user code . and tried another fix i copied the code into wp-config and just closed notepad and it asked me to save and i clicked yes ..instead of saving first ( it getting changed )and then closing.. you will understand this better only if you also run into this problem

There are more plugins on the internet than there is probably hair on my head ( not that i am going bald or something, i got a proper crop of hair ). Part 1 talked about the basics features and differences between these two blogging softwares ( WORDPRESS MULTI USER AND BUDDY PRESS )as i try and get more familiar with them. i installed the wpmu and did everything right thanks to hese 2 links on You tube .

So everything was installed beautifully , then i created my first blog from within the admin panel of wpmu and “SHUCKS” . it just kept giving some internal eror.

At this stage i was starting to lean towards the simple buddy press plugin that does a nice job of encouraging people to register with your site with its nice features like creating your profiles, interacting with each other on the blog , and able to post to the blog as well ( though members cant start thier own blogs on the server like you can do with WPMU )

WPMU INTERNAL EROR FIX – Solution

So with the internal eror problem appearing i did a bit of google searching and found out this file fix. Apparently if you change the .htaccess file to this it will work . Here is the link to the fix i got http://www.thepowerofk.com/blog/help/wpmu/wordpress-mu-htaccess-file-change/

This definitely fixed it and my blog was appearing now . I think it was probably something to do with my wpmu being installed in a sub directory other than the main blog and the change in the htacess file 1st line as mentioned in the link above fixed it up.

The blog is working now but it takes and awful lott of time for the subdomain blog to load up now ,,i have to figure out if its the server problem ( dre3amhost ) or then a configuration problem that is lowing it down ..more in part 3.. 🙂

Ringtones has since their inception gotten more weird and weird and quite frankly now some can be quite a pain , Luckily Now one Japanese company has actually made one ringtone that which literally take away the pain.

Index Corporation announced that its cellphone ringtone site Sokuho Music Search (Sokuho = breaking news) provides a new version of ringtone collections “Hana Sukkiri Melody” (Hana Sukkiri = cleared up nostril).

“The ringtone will make a nose has resonant frequency with pollens adherent inside your nasal cavity, so eventually pollens fall down. ”

Index Corporation of Japan introducing a new range of ringtone collections known as "Hana Sukkiri Melody”, or "Cleared up nostril" melody after translation. Apparently, this ringtone is able to make a nose resonate at the same frequency with pollens adherent inside your nasal cavity, letting them fall down eventually thanks to the use of 27 variations of frequency from420Hz to 1070Hz.

A company called Japan Ringing Tone Laboratory has created the "Hana Sukkiri Melody" ringtone, which claims to be able to clear out your sinuses whenever anybody calls you.

The company claims that "the ringtone will make a nose has resonant frequency with pollens adherent inside your nasal cavity, so eventually pollens fall down." The application is developed by Japan Ringing Tone Laboratory (JRTL), who “develops scientific approach on ringtones”, led by Dr. Matsumi Suzuki [J] who is a professor of Adam Smith University (diploma…)

Luckily, JRTL has some much more sensible-sounding ringtones in the pipeline, including "sleep-promoting ringtone," "ringtone makes your date," "crow scarer ringtone," "ringtone makes your skin beautiful," and more.

Never heard of Notion Ink? Its founders are six IITans and an MBA grad. With an average age of 24, they believe India has what it takes to compete with the most innovative tech companies in the world.

Adam the IPAD KILLER ?

“We knew that Indian engineers and designers were doing most of the innovative work at Microsoft, Intel, and Apple. We just needed to take the first step," says co-founder Rohan Shravan. “ Compared to the iPad, the Adam is substantially more computer like. It is fully multi-tasking capable, has 3 USB and 1 HDMI (allowing for full HD at 1080p). Adam’s screen is slightly larger, and is adapts to low and high light environments.

Current PC technology is like a Hummer on a city road,” quips Rohit Rathi, the youngest of the group at 23, and, along with Shravan, one of four co-founders from IIT Kharagpur. Two are from IIT Delhi while Sachin Ralhan, the eldest at 25, is a childhood friend of Shravan and Rathi and an MBA from IIPM. Apart from Ralhan and Rathi, the other five are all aged 24.

What’s so different about their tech? Three years in the making, the Adam tablet is the first device in the world to integrate two breakthrough power saving components – nVidia’s Tegra 2 chip and a PixelQi screen. Together, they help it achieve twice the battery life and performance of the iPad.

The Adam also has a swivel video camera, allowing you not only to video chat but to record university lectures, or anything else. It seems almost as if the Google team intentionally developed the Adam to encompass everything the iPad lacks.

Whats equally impressive is how the Adam is priced slightly less than the iPad. With all its technological superiority, it just goes to show how much Apple charges for their logo.

“The chip provides an edge over the iPad with its ability to play full high definition videos and Flash on the web browser. It can offer the performance of a computer with the power consumption of a cellphone,” explains Shravan.

Adam’s 10-inch screen integrates many innovations first used in the $100 OLPC (one laptop per child) project. Unlike traditional screens, PixelQI screen has a dual mode, and can be read in bright sunlight like an e-reader. With the backlight off, the company claims that it can increase battery life between charges by a factor of five. The question mark hanging over the Adam’s head (until some meaningful hands-on time is had) will be can Android deliver a solid tablet experience. On Notion Ink’s site they refer to an “improved Android UI for 10 inch devices” and expressly state that we are not just talking about expanded screens.

Notion Ink worked with National Institute of Design’s R&D development campus in Bangalore to build a unique touch interface that runs on Google’s Android mobile operating system. As a startup, it faced many obstacles in filing patents and finding the right engineering talent. “India doesn’t have people working on Android. And the companies that have, charge Rs 1 lakh per resource per month,” says Rohan. “So we came up with a social solution – We opted to train engineers ourselves

What about the pricing? The company has not yet taken a decision on this crucial aspect, but is clear that Adam will definitely be competitive vis-a-vis Apple’s iPad. It expects to start retail sales, at first in the USA, from July onwards.
