[et_pb_section bb_built=”1″][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text full module transformed” _builder_version=”3.0.76″ background_layout=”light” border_style=”solid”]

divi builder plugin

Today I am going to show you an amazing WordPress Wp plugin that can make any WordPress website awesome. I will test elements of the design modules within the post to show you what can be done.

Its from elegant themes. This is not a review, but a honest write up on a amazing WP plugin that can transform your website design and look of your blog posts.

I love this plugin as you can use it with any theme. I have been using elegant  themes and plugins for the  past 7+ years.

The Divi Builder plugin from elegant

flexible website builder

This  wordpress web builder plugin can make landing pages, faq pages, lead or sale buttons, your profile or portfolio page, an awesome price comparison page or just mix this all together in one page seamlessly. You could easily add any of these above mentioned features to any page on your website. The plugin that does this is called the divi builder plugin from elegant themes. I have been using elegant for the last 7 years and they are the most value for money wp theme provider IMHO.

To be honest I got to know about the divi builder plugin only a bit recently and I m a fan already. I like it because it does not restrict and can be used with any WP theme you have installed on your webpage. It can make your website look like a professional landing page in a minute, if you like . It builds webpages as responsive pages. You can easily chop and change design elements on a page  including  adding  a pic background , transparent color background  and many more features to any section of your page.

The beauty of this all is anybody can now design an awesome looking page or website with this website builder plugin without having to know any coding. This plugin uses the new drag and drop technology, where you can just drag a premade section or style to your page and drop it where you want it to appear. You can then go ahead and edit elements further if you want, like adding a background color or pic, changing the font and font colors size for that section, adjusting margins , padding etc and much more.

Using this plugin, I almost felt like i am using microsoft word and making an amazing looking document – its so easy. For people entirely new to websites or minimum knowledge of websites, this might still take a few days of getting used to how you use this plugin, but once you know what you can do with it, you will use it everywhere. what does this Website builder plugin cost –  It is available with purchasing a yearly membership to elegant themes, but  for sure  you get much more in value than you can imagine with the membership fees. Details of fees below.

So what’s the price of their membership today ?

socail media sharing plugin

The cost for  a elegant  WP theme membership today is $89 per year. For this you get access to their whole collection of 87 premium wordpress themes, access to all plugins, updates and premium support. The got two awesome plugins Bloom email opt in plugin free ( email opt in plugins for  collecting emails) and  Monarch ( Social media sharing plugin) that by itself is of great value and is included  with the membership fees.

different kinds of wp themes from elegant responsive

They have an amazing 22 responsive themes and  many more themes  including ecommerce, magazine and 4 free tumblr themes.

Divi builder plugin vs Divi theme

The divi website builder plugin was built as an afterthought to the release of the Divi theme, but both of them are awesome in thier own ways. Divi theme has all the features of the divi builder inbuilt into the theme, while the builder plugin can be used as a stand alone wp plugin to work with any wordpress theme.

I actually tried this plugin on one website that i am building for a friend. I used the genesis pro theme with the divi builder plugin and was amazed I managed a google page 1 ranking for him within a week .

extra divi based theme template

There is also the “EXTRA Theme” from elegant wordpress themes that makes use of the divi functionality and is an amazing theme itself out of the box. When I first purchased my elegant theme membership 5+ years ago it was only $39 a year for like 60 or so premium wordpress themes and it was a steal then. Today prices have increased with most premium wp theme and template providers, yet elegant is the cheapest with the most professionally coded themes on the internet.

When I first started blogging i was on a budget and purchased single themes costing me anywhere betwen $15 to $30 for each theme at that time. So when I came across 60 plus quality themes, it just made sense to sign up for a yearly membership. I didnt regret it and my active membership today and use of thier plugins is proof of that.

Apart from this plugin they do have some other amazing WP plugins like bloom and Monarch that I use on some other websites and those add value for the membership too.

I have websites as online web directories that I launched 3 years ago and still doing well with the elegant elist theme.

To be fair I do have other favorite theme providers too. After elegant, I would rate Solostream WP themes and the Studiopress Genesis themes as my second best WPtheme providers. I used to use wpzoom for quite some time, but then they started charging more for extended support etc , so I ditchedd them. Thier themes are still good and helped me rank sone sites up , but i feel Studiopress Genesis themes much better and getting ranked with thier in built seo. I have made sites that make me money withdc elegant themes and rank on google as well, so I hope im not confusing you.

Each theme provider has their own unique strong points and so its always good to sign up with at least three if you can afford to. If you cant then the choice is clear for me.

If you are looking for a good design option for your existing or new wordpress blog , then do check out their themes here, before you go elswhere. You will thank me later! 🙂

This Blog Webhosting costs only $20,000 a month

July 22, 2017 by admin 3 Comments

high traffic hosting services

You would be surprised to know that some websites pay $20,000 a month for hosting of their website.  That’s expensive and many bloggers cannot afford that kind of hosting money.

For many top entertainment and news websites like CNN, MTV their daily traffic can be in the hundred thousand and sometimes even million hits a day for really popular websites.

You would be surprised to know that many of these websites also use WordPress CMS like any small time blogger. But you won’t find them using cheap shared hosting plans like go daddy ($1), bluehost or site ground, like many of us beginner bloggers use.

These websites even though they are using wordpress, they need the hosting servers with the big guns so to speak. Their bandwidth requirements are humongous and they have large spikes in traffic on a regular basis.

Portals like these can go through quite a few up and downs in speed and bandwidth needs, when possibly  any of their hundreds of content pieces happen to go viral.

You could imagine large sites like these would churn out hundreds of articles and videos on a daily basis.  These websites need constant looking after to make sure everything is running right and loading fast to their viewers.

On large sites like these, you can find people watching hundreds of videos, filling in thousand forms a day for competitions, hundreds of signups for memberships perhaps, and thousands of downloads for a screensaver or a pdf file tutorial. It could be anything like these and these actions use data and bandwidth.

As you would imagine, different websites get traffic usage through different offerings or downloads offered and these all use huge bandwidth and so you need a reliable hosting server.

While we beginner and established bloggers often pay as less as $1 a month for hosting, these websites can pay anywhere from $25,000 to even $50,000 a month for web-hosting. They do get premium service like dedicated engineers looking after the website, 24 /7 monitoring and many more premium services that we would not get on a budget shared plan.

Here are my results of the expensive hosting providers. They are high priced because they cater to high volume traffic websites.

Top 5 Web-hosting Providers for high traffic websites

  • WordPress VIP Webhosting
  • Amazon AWS
  • Rackspace
  • Google GAE
  • Pagely

Most of the time, when we talk about hosting large WordPress sites, the conversation starts at VIP. If you don’t know, VIP is the Automatic solution for enterprise WordPress hosting.

Its claim to fame is all of the well-known news, blog and media sites it hosts (like CNN, Times, and TED, Tec crunch).

WordPress VIP Webhosting

https://vip.wordpress.com/our-services/

vip servers from wordpress.com

VIP ENTERPRISE PLAN (from WordPress.com)

Starts at $25,000/mo. ( can be up to $50,000 all inclusive)

Setup fee: $15,000 per site, $5,000 when using a partner – which means you will be paying $35,000 in the first month itself if you go with just a basic enterprise wordpress plan.

If you go with a subdomain add-on and quite likely 2 or 3 developers which you will need for a big site, the price per month could easily hit $50,000 + a month. This plan is good for a network of sites.

What it includes:

· 5 Sites

· Unlimited traffic and storage

· Unlimited Global CDN

· 1 Developer support (additional developer $10,000 per developer)

· Support availability 24/7/365

· Elastic search, live blog, Video press and site monitoring is included

VIP BASIC PLAN (from WordPress.com)

Starts at $10,000/mo.

Setup fee: $15,000 per site, $5,000 when using a partner – – which means you will be paying $30,000 in the first month itself if you go with this basic wordpress plan without any add-ons.

What it includes:

· 5 Sites

· Unlimited traffic and storage

· Unlimited Global CDN

· 1 Developer support ( additional developer $10,000 per developer)

· Support availability 24/7/365

[As compared to the enterprise plan the elastic search, live blog, Video press and site monitoring is not included with this plan and costs extra.]

AMAZON AWS

amazon web services

The two products/services you can use from Amazon AWS for your wordpress website is called “Amazon EC2” and “Amazon S3”.

Because of the technical nature of how amazon servers are organised, you will need a skilled website developer  to setup your website with amazon hosting servers.

Amazon EC2

Amazon EC2 is the product from Amazon AWS that allows you to host your WordPress website. Amazon EC2 allows you to configure and scale your websites needs and capacity easily to meet changing requirements and demand.

pricing for ec2 amazon wordpress

Amazon EC2 pricing is based on four components: the instance type you choose (EC2 comes in 40+ types), the region your instances are based in, the software you run, and the pricing model you select (on-demand instances, reserved capacity, spot, etc.).

The pricing for Amazon AWS is a bit complex compared to other hosting providers.

Example: Let’s say you decide to host your WordPress website on one Linux t2.large EC2 instance in the US East region. With an on-demand pricing model, your monthly charge for EC2 will be $76.13.

The total cost of building a WordPress website will vary depending on your usage and the instance types you select for the web server and database instance. Using the default configuration recommended by amazon, it will typically cost $450/month to host a WordPress site.

The total cost for hosting may increase if you use Auto Scaling to increase the number of web server instances in the event of increased traffic to your WordPress site (approximately $75/month for each additional web server- if the web server is active for the entire month).

Amazon S3

Amazon S3 provides secure, durable, and highly-scalable cloud storage for the objects (media libraries, theme files, images, videos, and JavaScript) that make up your WordPress website.

amazon s3 hosting

Amazon S3 makes it is easy to use object storage with a simple web interface to store and retrieve data from anywhere on the web.

How Pricing Works for S3:

S3 Pricing is based on five components: the type of S3 storage you use, where you store your WordPress content (e.g. US East vs. Asia Pacific – Sydney), the amount of data you store, the number of requests you or your users make to store new content or retrieve the content, and the amount of data that is transferred from S3 to you or your users.

Example: Using Standard Storage in US East, if you store 1 GB of content, you’d pay $0.03 per month. If you created your account in the past 12 months, and you’re eligible for the AWS Free Tier, you’d pay $0.00 per month.

For more information, see Amazon EC2 Pricing.

Rackspace WordPress Hosting

Rackspace has Australian servers and have a mix of entry level word-press plans and high capacity enterprise plans as well.  They provide root access to their cloud server hosting for word-press.

rackspace aus hosting

Entry level Hosting is $128 a month

Pricing similar to enterprise plans can be anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000 a month based on your server requirements.

You can get a customised quote from them.

What it includes:

· Cloud Servers

· LAMP stacks, load balancing or caching are implemented for fast speed.

· Full Control to utilize nearly any WordPress Plug-in

· Local SSD High Performance Storage

· Offer root-level access and APIs

· 24x7x365 Support

Rackspace has been helping business run web content management platforms since 1998.

Unfortunately they don’t provide prices for high capacity enterprise plans. For high traffic and large websites, you will have to contact them and request a custom quote.

You can get your wordpress pricing from rackspace over here or use their price calculator for a specific detailed pricing based on bandwith and addons.

Pagely WordPress Plans

Pagely has wordpress managed plans. They provide free white-glove site migration of up to two sites and a 30 day money back guarantee.

They are powered by Amazon Web services.

pagely logo website servers

The Pulsar Plan

$20,000/mo. ($22,800/yr. – No setup fee)

What it includes:

· 1 Production site

· Included disk

· Included Bandwidth

· Included CDN

· Full site/monitoring results

· 1 Hour Guaranteed support response

Pagely VPS -1 (the entry level wordpress plan)

$499/mo. ($5,689/yr.)

This is a WordPress Optimized entry-level plan with staging and database access complemented by 3.75GB of RAM on SSD backed Amazon c4.large instance.

It’s on a Shared Aurora RDS Database Cluster.

What it includes:

· 30 Sites

· 50 GB Disk

· 200 GB Bandwidth

· 1TB CDN

What do you get with these high priced plans ?

With these high priced plans, the more you pay the more you get. Sometimes if your lucky, you can  request freebies to be thrown in as a bonus as well.

However most high traffic hosting service providers,  give you a set of basic  features with every plan. Below are some typical features to look out for in the high ticket  plan you are purchasing

Typical features of a high priced hosting plan:

· Dedicated site engineer provided

· Customised server infrastructure for website if needed.

· Unlimited bandwidth

· High amounts of memory/ram on servers

· CDN and caching Inbuilt

If any of these above features are missing in your webhosting plan you purchased,  and your plan is more than $10,000 a month – you should be having a chat with your  hosting provider.

Cheap Hosting Vs Expensive hosting

Today with cheap hosting you purchase your shared hosting plan and  all you get is minimum or skeleton support, such is not the case with premium webhosting.

With the budget or cheap hosts, you don’t even get phone support from most providers today. Many of these shared plan providers only provide online chat support – which is often horrible and inefficient.

This is something you will have to put up with in budget host plans.

With these plans, you have to do the website installation and setup all by yourself. Luckily they have created  custom install scripts to assist with this process, which makes the job somewhat easy.

Some of the top shared plans an hosting providers are below [budget hosting]

sahred hosting plans

Hosting Provider Price of Plan Offer Link
Bluehost shared plan $3.95 > Plan details
Go Daddy shared Plan $1 > Offer details
Hostgator Shared Plan $3.95 > What’s included

There is also a market in-between cheap hosts and very costly hosts. These are for the mid-sized webhosting companies for small businesses.

Hosting companies like WP engine, Liquidweb ($189/mo –20 sites Use code WordPress33 –33% off for 3 months) and Pagely cater to such mid-sized businesses  to large business with robust or custom optimised WP plans.

The mid sized plans from these providers can often be  priced between $1000 a month up to the  $5,000 dollar a month range. They often customise these plans according to your  website traffic, data and infrastructure needs.

Wish list –  If you are purchasing hosting from a High Traffic Website hosting provider:

  • · Unlimited SSD Disk Space and Bandwidth
  • · Free 256-Bit SSL Certificate
  • · Secured by ModSecurity and MagicSpam Pro
  • · Full Acronis Daily backups at no extra cost
  • · 99.99% LiteSpeed Cloud Uptime Guarantee

This above list is a wish list  that you should look to have when purchasing a  new premium  hosting account and you are willing to spend at least $5,000 a month and upwards on a website server upgrade.

These included features will give  you a solid base  for the security and stability of your website.

How Big Companies manage their hosting

Many large Internet companies (Amazon, Facebook, and Google, for example) often do run (primarily, if not exclusively) their own data centres because they want/require more control over their data, technology, and costs.

But Netflix, for example, uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) pretty heavily. Netflix uses AWS to do their video encoding, for example, and runs huge numbers of virtual machines in the AWS cloud.

In my experience, most big companies have such diverse web requirements that they are likely to use a mix of their own data centres, third-party hosting and, cloud services.

They can use mostly these three different paths:

(to run their services)

· Own datacentre

· Renting racks at a co-location space

· Hosting it on a third party “cloud”

Optimising Big Websites

When optimising big sites inbuilt coding, custom and third party applications can be used for optimising your website for speed and and efficiency.

Often applications like Cloudflare, MaxCDN, and/or a cache plugin are used to help you scale a site.  With word press you can either use third party applications/services like these to increase your speed stability or create custom server or scripts within your server to do these functions.

Many of the top level websites like Facebook and amazon and YouTube that receive millions of hits every day from all over the world, have their own data centres which exclusively serve their own data and content.

They often have data centres spread around the world for faster online access to their customers to that particular area/country just like a CDN. So you can say in theory, they have like their own inbuilt CDN and caching technology in their servers.

The big boys In hosting servers or datacentres

Amazon has their own infrastructure and is also one of the largest web hosting companies on earth. (See Amazon AWS).

These guys are certainly bigger than Hostgator and Godaddy in terms of how much hosting they are using, since they own multiple data centres around the globe to serve a billion users and massive amounts of content.

Amazon Web Services already has a reputation for being able to handle very large loads

Facebook owns their own datacentre’s around the world. They even create their own server hardware from scratch.  You would ask why – This allows Facebook to save energy by super-optimizing their hardware to their software and vice versa.

Facebook used to use Rackspace back in 2009/2010 (as per GitHub), but has since grown *a lot*

Tools to find out website hosting used

Often you wonder, this website looks popular and is quite fast  too, I wonder who they use for hosting?

If you want to get a feel for what mix of technology or servers a specific website is using, this tool “BuiltWith – Web Technology Profiler”  gives you a fair idea for most sites.

Another tool/service to see who is self-hosting is “Netcraft’s Search Web by Domain” because they list netblock owners.

pros and cons

Summary

All the hosts featured here are reputable  and capable of handling high traffic websites including wordpress websites.

When you have  big needs  for your high traffic website, its best to go with a reputable server provider who ticks all the boxes for your requirements.

Most servers will be able to add  services to your order based on what you are paying and often they can offer a free add on bonus on request.

The basic server structure would not be able to be changed much most of the time, so make sure you know what they are running on their servers  and if it will work with your website needs.

Good luck and all the best finding your new host and let me know in comments, if you know any webhosts pricier than the ones I listed here. Ciao!

How To Become A Freelance Web Developer

July 13, 2017 by admin Leave a Comment

by Rosie Allabarton

If you’re reading this then you’re probably thinking about becoming a freelancer, or a web developer, or best of all some combination of the two.

computert v keyboard freelance writing for developer

It’s a good idea! But, err, how?

You could have a number of reasons for making the decision to break out of the corporate machine, but if you’re looking for examples, here are four that you might have considered while sitting at your desk job, imagining all the creative ways of saying “I QUIT”:

1. A better work-life balance – you can have breakfast with your boyfriend/girlfriend again!

2. Being your own boss – you can work all morning (or all night for that matter), and then spontaneously take a couple of days off to, I don’t know, play disc golf?

3. Freedom to choose your working hours/clients/rate of pay – say a polite ‘no thank you’ to that miserable client and a ‘no thank you’ to his criminally low budget too.

4. The chance to work on more interesting projects – no more monotony, each month bringing a variety of work, clients and opportunities. Cue envious looks from your former colleagues.

Perhaps you’ve already trained in Ruby On Rails, or you learned HTML at college, or you’re a dab hand at Java. If so, now could be the perfect time to join the freelance movement and become your own boss.

Who should consider freelancing as an option?

If you’re a developer already, in all likelihood you’ve been working for the same company, or bouncing from opportunities year by year, leaving every time something that started out fascinating became quickly mundane. For a while now you’ve been thinking about calling your own shots, and breaking away from your circular work life.

On the other hand, if you’re a tech junky looking for a way to build a skillset that allows you to work on your own terms, this is a pretty stellar option.

Being your own boss has a huge number of advantages, and not just because you get to decide the theme for the office Christmas party (Jumanji, anyone?) but getting started is tough. As a freelance web developer you put yourself in a high value position, but only for as long as you are able to run your own business, which includes managing the worst kind of employee you know… you!

Just kidding, but let’s face it, self discipline is tough when your other options are watching movies on your sofa with a box of cookies. You have to be strict, but incase you need the motivation, here are a few things about being a freelance developer that work to your advantage:

  • Your skills are highly sought-after in every industry (AKA lots of demand)
  • There is a huge shortage of web developers worldwide (AKA lots of demand)
  • Contract salaries are frequently high (AKA … awesome)

Think this might be the career choice for you? Thought so. Then let’s get you started!

1. Find Your Niche

Wanna stand out from the crowd? Find yourself a niche and upgrade your skills. While it’s great to be a programmer that can do a bit of everything, your value will be higher as an expert in just a few.

“Becoming known as the solution to a particular set of problems is crucial to your freelance career, so you need to be willing to differentiate and then lock it in.”

– Ted Johnson, longterm freelance developer.

If you’re not sure your current abilities solve a common enough problem, consider learning a new language altogether, or try building a skillset of complementary abilities other than coding, such as User Experience Design, or User Interface Design for the more creative types. A developer who can also plan out a usable and effective information architecture is rare, and this dual-skilled approach could see you turning clients away left, right and centre.

You don’t ever just want to be “that developer guy/girl I know” but rather “an expert developer for [insert problem here]”. It’ll be much easier to advertise your skills and make a name for yourself if you can say you’re the best in a particular, sought-after area, or the only one who can do it.

Not sure what’s hot on the market right now? Here are the three most up and coming demands you’ll find today:

Ruby on Rails

Ruby on Rails is an open source web application framework which runs via the Ruby       programming language. Currently the hottest of the hot among startups worldwide.

Swift

Swift is Apple’s new innovative programming language for Cocoa and Cocoa Touch.           Structured for iOS development, syntax is concise yet expressive, and apps run lightning-fast.

Node.js

Node.js is a platform built on Chrome’s JavaScript runtime for easily building fast, scalable network applications. Many argue it is the up-and-coming competitor to Ruby on Rails.

As our friend and expert web developer Stephen Young (http://aestheticio.com/) put it:

“Focus on the underlying principles and driving forces behind new technologies.”

2. Start Building, Anything & Everything

So you’ve found your niche. Now it’s time to get building. The best place to start is your portfolio website, the one website you will update, edit and continually develop for your entire career. Your portfolio is a way of displaying your skills and having an easy reference for potential clients. If in doubt, remember that your goal in self-representation is to be easy to find, easy to remember, and good to know. But once you’ve published your CV, previewed samples of your past and added a contact form, what should you do?

“No one hires based on where you’ve been, they hire based on what you’ve done.”

– Emil Lamprecht, CMO CareerFoundry

Build your ideas, they are what make you, you.

Once you’ve built your portfolio, you need things to put in it, which is your opportunity to boost your personal brand by:

  • Practicing your niche skill
  • Building your own ideas
  • Exhibiting your technical chops

You’re essentially killing two birds with one stone: you’re improving on and applying your new skills while simultaneously showing your wares. Your portfolio is your shop window, so make sure that it, and its contents, represent your very best work.

And if you want help making it better, help others! Keep a blog that explains your process, ask and answer questions on social media and build, build, build every day.

3. Build Your Personal Brand

Getting your name out there as an expert in the field can be tough, but if you want the freelance lifestyle, you’ll have to hustle for it, so get ready for some sleepless nights.

There are so many opportunities for professionals to get known without spending a penny that advertising is not a route you need to go down, not at this stage. By showcasing your work, building a network and teaching and blogging like an expert you will find more than enough ways to connect with people and for people to find you.

It’s crucial that you talk to people. Online and off.

The internet, as you may know, is a marvellous marketing tool. There are so many opportunities for creating and building on new relationships that with a little tact your voice will quickly become vastly superior to any ads you’ll produce. Always keep in mind that you’ll have to talk to a lot of people to find and land clients, so get used to it!

As professional freelancer Rebecca Shapiro told us:

“Make sure that you seek freelancers outside of your industry, as well. Be as far reaching as possible. Go into building these relationships with an attitude of giving instead of getting and you’ll find you’ve easily built a reciprocal referral network.”

From a visibility standpoint, keep your goals simple. Getting Google to find you if you have a normal name can be tough, so focus on attaching your name across your portfolio, social profiles and content to the terminology of your niche skill, and the problems your clients will search for.

To kick it off, here are some great websites for online marketing:

  • Twitter – create a following by tweeting about current news in your niche, having conversations with people in your field and answering questions.
  • Quora – answer questions from people interested in your niche. Make these as detailed as possible: the more content you write the more likely Google is to associate your name with web development.
  • YouTube– create online tutorials and upload them using YouTube. Put them on your own website. Give them easy-to-Google titles like: “What is ” or, “How to ….” so that people can easily find them when they search. Try to make them personal and funny – without going too far off-topic – the more watchable they are the more people will come back to you for more videos.

Finally, a great opportunity for web developers to build a brand with is teaching. There are thousands of opportunities across the web for building, writing and mentoring in your particular niche, including on this platform, CareerFoundry.

4. Get Organised

Becoming a freelance web developer is not just about knowing how to code. It’s about being a project manager, a sales person and head of customer care. You might not have had much experience in these areas but they are just as crucial to the success of your freelancing career as anything you can do with your programming skills. This means you need to get organised!

Check out these time and project management tools and you’ll see how things have moved on since the days of the Filofax.

  • Quoteroller (www.quoteroller.com) is a practical, time-saving way to create and send professional proposals to clients in a matter of minutes. You can chart your proposal’s performance and even see when the client has opened it.
  • Toggl (www.toggl.com) can be a great way to track projects and see how much time you are spending on each one.
  • Asana (www.asana.com) is an excellent project management system, especially if you are working with others and need to delegate tasks or collaborate.
  • Google (www.google.com) has an infinite range of calanders and management apps.
  • BillingsPro (https://www.marketcircle.com/billingspro/) can be used to do project management and invoicing.
  • FreshBooks (http://www.freshbooks.com) can organise your projects, invoicing and expenses all with one app.

Do your research, ask friends, colleagues and other freelancers what they use.

Josh Boyd, longterm freelancer and writer for Crunch (http://www.crunch.co.uk), gave us his advice:

“The most useful thing I realised about freelancing was not to despair when things went a bit wrong. New tax forms to fill out and late-paying clients would make me reconsider, but it’s worth remembering freelancing is meant to be a challenge. If it were easy, it wouldn’t be half as rewarding.”

5. Build up your experience, project by project

Now that you’ve got that new, in-demand skill under your belt and a slick website, it’s time to do some real projects to show potential clients.

Elance (www.elance.com)

oDesk (www.oDesk.com)

and Freelancer (www.freelancer.com) are great online marketplaces for newbies in the field to start taking on jobs and gaining experience. In fact i can give you$20 bonus right now for your first project  to spend if you sign up right now.

check it out

Do this while you’re still in your fulltime job to get a feel of the amount of time you’ll need and what you can realistically start to earn per project. While you are still finding your feet, experience is what counts.

It’s a learning curve…

You are still very much in the learning process here: Learning how to be a business person and a freelancer. Use this step as a chance to learn how to handle clients, to find out what they will expect from you. It might also be worth doing projects for local charities, schools or small businesses who simply can’t afford to pay a web developer’s rate. As Joshua Kemp writes in his blog,Confessions Of An Unlikely Developer (http://joshuakemp.blogspot.de/ ):

“Find a friend with a TINY small business (any business) or you can just find a crappy old site that needs a serious facelift.”

By doing this you are building up your portfolio and getting great references for your CV; crucially, you’ll learn how to deal with people.

6. My last piece of advice? Be brave.

Let’s face it, when you start out you’re not going to be an expert in your field. You may take on projects that you aren’t sure how you’re going to finish. If that’s the case, if you’re not 100% confident of how you’re going to complete a project…

Give your client a realistic idea of when they can expect that work back.

If you tell them it’s going to take longer than they expect it’s better you tell them that now than when the deadline has passed. No one likes (bad) surprises. Particularly people who are paying you to do something.

Our reliable friend Google (www.google.com) can help you with almost every kind of programming query you have, as well as websites like Stackoverflow (www.stackoverflow.com). But don’t let lack of confidence stop you from taking on these bigger projects. It’s how you’ll develop as a freelancer and how you’ll learn your trade.

So, in summary, how do you become a freelance web developer?

1. ) Find your niche

2.) Build, build, build

3.) Get your name out there and establish a network of other freelancers and industry professionals, as well as rebuilding links with previous colleagues and employers

4.) Do some research into and invest in some decent management and invoicing software

5.) Start getting experience every which way you can until you’re ready to….

6.) Take on your first big client.

It’s not easy. It’s damned hard work. But the rewards of the freelance lifestyle will outweigh all of this hard work by 100 times if you do it right from the beginning. Building your reputation as a hard worker, a reliable, honest web developer who treats his or her clients well will pay off time and time again as you continue along your freelance journey.

Word of mouth recommendations are worth a hundred of any advertisement you could pay for. So don’t take short cuts. Don’t rush a project or treat any client better or worse than the next one. Get as much experience as you can and always, always do a good job.

The fiverr website is not loading in my browser

July 12, 2017 by admin Leave a Comment

Recently i have been struggling  with a problem with  the fiverr website, and this seems to apparently be a problem with many websites that use nginx or then just a corrupted cookie. Normally you would get some error sounding just like this below.

bad cookie

img from http://shupamalleo86.deviantart.com/Bad-Ass-Cookie

“Request Header Or Cookie Too Large”

“400 Bad request Nginx Chrome”

“cookie to big”

“400 Bad Request Request Header Or Cookie Too Large nginx”

These errors can  pop up in popular browsers like Chrome, Firefox, IE and edge and its not the browser fault, but more like the error or corrupted cookie fault (BAD COOKIE!).

I visited fiverr.com  website below and go the first error above

go to fiverr

Sometimes just clearing the cache works, but at times, you may feel the need to delete or clear the Cache & Cookies for a specific website only – and not the entire Browsing History

What are cookies ?

cookie monsterCookies are small files which are stored on a user’s computer. They are designed to hold a modest amount of data specific to a particular client and website, and can be accessed either by the web server or the client computer.

This allows the server to deliver a page tailored to a particular user, or the page itself can contain some script which is aware of the data in the cookie and so is able to carry information from one visit to the website (or related site) to the next.

How Do We Fix the  BIG BAD COOKIE Problem

What we are really trying to do is clear all the stored cookies and data  on your website for that particular website and see if its a corrupted cookie problem and delete the cookies. The cookies are generally served by the provider website , but could also get corrupted due to events on your system. so the best solution is to delete those cookies/data for that website and start afresh.( don’t worry this action will not affect your fiverr or  that website account or anything)

Here is how you fix this if you have been getting similar  errors in your browser trying to reach the fiverr.com website and getting 400 errors.

  1. Click on three dots (top right) in chrome browser
    Click on settings

1 advanced button in chrome

Click on advanced

2. Got to content settings

2 content settings in browser

3. Click on cookies

3 cookies area in settings

4. Scroll down to  all cookies and Site data

4 all cookies nd site data in chrome

Click in the search area and type fiverr

5 remove all cookies shown in chrome for website

– All Fiverr fiverr logo cookies will be shown
– you can just click on remove all cookies shown and remove all the fiverr cookies
Job done
You should be ready to login  to your fiverr website or website that’s is showing up errors now as cookies is clear, you could also  clear cache  if you like at this stage.

Remember when you clear cookies and site data, it will clear and stored passwords as well for that site, so you will have to re-login with your email and password once more.

If you are an Internet Explorer user, see this post: Delete Temporary Internet Files & Cookies for a particular domain.

If you are a Microsoft Edge user, then this browser does not let you delete cache for particular websites. You will have to delete the entire Browsing History & Cache.

You can also use CookieSpy, a freeware that lets you manage Cookies of all Browsers in one place. Use it to delete Cookies from a particular domain. You can get more details about it and download it from its home page. The home page offers two download links – TechSpot and CNET

June 20, 2017 by admin 4 Comments

audials one This amazing software is pretty much an all-in-one online  recording  software and that’s the reason why I am writing about it. Besides being  able to record streaming video and audio, this utility offers the ability to convert videos between different formats to play on your tablets and smart devices like phones.

2018 Discount Deal
Audials One 2018 40 Percent Discount

compressed audial software screen

Remember the days when online streaming was not as popular and people tried hard with various methods to download from streams and convert video and audio. Now days this is not necessary with cheap streaming of audios and videos for very low prices or then even free.

However what if you pay for audio and video services and want to keep a copy of what you paid for, that is when you need a good software that has this capabilities.

This amazing software will download record and convert audio and video from streaming resources

And it does this all with streaming services and podcasts as well. This software is called Audials One and this one is made up of all the features of all the other software from this company called : Audials Tunebite Platinum, Audials Tunebite Premium, Audials Moviebox and Audials Radiotracker. It currently has a 50% off deal that wont last long, so grab it before it expires.

The inbuilt music search facility

music search software for streaming #netflix #spotify #youtube

I recently gave this software a go, and was quite pleased with it. While installing, I was so happy to see that it had the option of installing to USB as well or then also to your preferred USB drive install (for those who are always short on space on c drive).

These software makers think of everything (snapshot below/here). Audials AG is a European company that was originally founded in 1998 under the name of RapidSolution Software

So what can Audial 1 do?

Internet recording ( music and podcasts)

It can easily record audio from streaming podcasts and music streaming stations

save music streaming and recording
