Most unmanned vehicles rules and regulations in Australia fall under the https://aaus.org.au/unmanned-systems/  which deals with rules under three categories

  1. Unmanned Aircraft Systems (mainly air drones)
  2. Unmanned Marine Systems (mainly underwater vehicle  also known as USVs and UUVs)
  3. Unmanned Ground Vehicles ( autonomous cars, trucks …)

Australia right now has a visible regulatory website for drones (airfrafts) Quadcopters in  www.casa.gov.au however there  does not seem to be an online presence for underwater vehicles regulation.

We plan to bring out a more in detailed review with more models, so bookmark our blog to check it out later. In the meantime if you enjoyed reading about this underwater robot  you might like to read about the robot that irons and folds your clothes and the future of toys on our blog.

Black Friday Deals 2020 – The Top 20 picks for Australia

November 27, 2020 by admin 5 Comments

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.22″][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_margin=”1px|||” custom_padding=”1px|||”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”1px|||” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text admin_label=”intro text” _builder_version=”4.7.4″ custom_margin=”1px|||” custom_padding=”1px|||” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

I search online for black friday deals and find Australian businesses like Harvey Norman, Kogan and News.com.au flogging deals for this American online sale frenzy that happens each year in November. The weird thing is most people in Australia don’t have a clue what this whole online sale event is about.

Before Google Search Australia got invaded with “black friday sales” by all the commercial websites for a “thanksgiving day that Australia does not celebrate”,  it used to show the real black friday bushfires in Australia that everybody knew about. The bushfires that happened in 1939 in Victoria, Australia.

The Royal Commission noted that “it appeared the whole State was alight on Friday, 13 January 1939”. The infamous Black Friday bushfires happened on the 13 January 1939, in Victoria, Australia. It was said to be among the worst natural bushfires (wildfires) in the world. Almost 20,000 km² (4,942,000 acres, 2,000,000 ha) of land was burned, 71 people died, several towns were entirely obliterated. So we pay our respects to those affected by those bush fires.

Black Friday for the US  is a commercial bonanza for  retail and online business. Black Friday  and Cyber Monday is a  big event in the US and massive discounts are available online. Everybody loves a good bargain online and for this reason, I have done a roundup of all the good deals  that I have updated from  2020 to 2018. I made a list, so you too can benefit from these online sale offers here in Australia.

When is Black friday and cyber monday ?

  • Black Friday 2020 is on 27 November 2020
  • Cyber Monday is on  Monday, 30 November 2020
Black Friday is an informal name for the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States.
From wikipedia
The earliest evidence of the phrase Black Friday applied to the day after Thanksgiving in a shopping context suggests that the term originated in Philadelphia, where it was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic that would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.

This usage dates to at least 1961. More than twenty years later, as the phrase became more widespread, a popular explanation became that this day represented the point in the year when retailers begin to turn a profit, thus going from being “in the red” to being “in the black”

Microsoft Teams by Microsoft

teams by microsoft

https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/

Microsoft Teams is a new player in the market that has rapidly taken over market share from webex and zoom.

With the competition heating up for video conferencing platforms like Google Meet and many other free video conferencing platforms, Microsoft has made it free to collaborate with your colleagues with some limitations.

  • Multi-Platform support -You can use Microsoft Teams on most platforms including Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, and macOS.
  • Schedule video/audio meetings with one person or a team or make a call directly to your teammates.
  • Features includes screen sharing and call recording, background blur and chat.
  • Just share a link with your team to join the call or a meeting.
  • Easy to use – The interface is clean and simple to understand. You can initiate an online meeting or can schedule one as per your requirement.
  • Host a webinar or meeting with up to 10,000 participants.
  • App is integrated with Microsoft 365
  • If the other person is unable to answer, you can leave a voicemail-like message.
  • With Microsoft Teams integrations with Outlook, you can schedule a video call in advance and you get an alert before it begins.
  • The free account offers 10 GB of team file storage and 2 GB of personal file storage per person
  • It supports most Microsoft software. Teams let you collaborate in real-time with MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Let your teammates access, share, and edit Word docs, PowerPoint, and Excel files in real-time
  • You can communicate and collaborate with teams up to 500K users
  • Microsoft keeps your data secure by using Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP) technology for video and audio data encryption.

How to set up Microsoft Teams:

You can download the app directly from the app store or Microsoft website and use your email account to log in. It can also be accessed via a web browser.

If you remember skype owned by Microsoft and still use it, MT has been built using some features “Skype for Business” that has been rolled into Teams. Teams support VoIP calling features where you can call anyone with a phone using Microsoft’s cloud-based PBX.

Microsoft Teams is ideal for businesses who already use or are familiar with Microsoft products and for others it could be an expensive option. It is however a perfect solution to collaborate with your team with plenty of features and third-party app integration options, which is not available with competitors.

How to use and set up Zoom Meeting:

First, you need to get the Zoom app on your device.

You will need the code and password for the meeting you wish to join.

At the time of the meeting, enter your Zoom app and type in the meeting code. After a short while, you will be prompted to put in the password. Type it on the password line. You will get a message telling you to wait to be invited into the meeting by the host.

Once you get the invitation, you will see the host (or some meeting participants) on your screen. If you want them to be able to see and hear you during the meeting, tap the video and audio icons at the bottom of the screen to join the meeting with visual and audio.

You can also press “mute” any time you want to remain silent to the host or other participants. Just remember to press “unmute” if you want to be heard again. [ These zoom instructions can be quite similar to use for most other video conferencing apps too ]

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider _builder_version=”4.6.3″ _module_preset=”default”][/et_pb_divider][et_pb_text admin_label=”Other Business Video apps” _builder_version=”4.6.1″]

Most of these apps work by creating a meeting id or a URL that you can share with people to join your meeting or video chat.

Companies or organisations will have to take into account – companies licensing agreements, hardware, budget, communication needs before signing up with such providers.

Historically with these apps none has been truly web-based, as they require a download, only work on certain devices, and don’t always work on all browsers. But this has changed now with most of these being able to be used with web browsers using plugins as alternatives and some even in stand- alone browsers.

Zoom vs WebEx

Zoom is the hot new web conferencing toy in the industry, but is proving itself to be well received in the workplace due to its ease of use and nice video interface. Cisco is a bit pricier when compared to others, but Zoom costs can add on with charges for add-on charges for extra features.

A sit stand up desk

Sitting down in front of a laptop for long hours can result in cramped shoulders or back. Why not invest in a sit stand up desk. This should allow you to do work while sitting and also do work while standing half the time.  This method does wonders for many.

Take Regular breaks

Take breaks as if you would do so at your office.  If you took a morning break and an afternoon break with a walk around your block while at the office – do the same when you work from home.

Exercise keeps you healthy and more productive. Don’t forget when in office you do take some time to have a chat with fellow colleagues as well, so make sure you break up your continuous work time.

Getting Ready to Work from home

Gadgets, Settings and Adjustments you will need to make.

WORK MONITORS: Turn your laptop into a Desktop. Your workplace monitors may be huge or dual monitors, so it enables you to see screens easily for long hours. Make sure you get a laptop which is easy to do work for long hours without strain on your eyes. Eye health is important too.

Get your laptop attached to your home desktop monitor or get your office laptop docking station to your home. Maybe get a laptop glare protector if you need one.

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Proper lighting in room” open=”on” admin_label=”Proper lighting in room” _builder_version=”4.4.2″ background_color=”rgba(237,239,88,0.52)” custom_padding=”5px|5px|5px|5px” z_index_tablet=”500″ border_radii=”on|5px|5px|5px|5px”]

LIGHTS: If there isn’t suitable or sufficient light in the room, it can lead to a strain on your eyes affecting your work, so it is essential to have enough light while working and lights that are not reflecting too much on your work area. Adjust as needed.

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Hydrate” open=”on” admin_label=”Hydrate” _builder_version=”4.4.2″ background_color=”rgba(67,137,193,0.52)” custom_padding=”5px|5px|5px|5px” z_index_tablet=”500″ border_radii=”on|5px|5px|5px|5px”]

HYDRATION: If you don’t have a water bottle on your desk at work, you should get one. Office aircon are known to get the air dry around you, and you need to hydrate, so don’t forget to do the same when you are working from home. Get your regular dose of hydration.

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Using your own mobile for work” open=”on” admin_label=”Using your own mobile for work” _builder_version=”4.4.2″ background_color=”rgba(224,60,51,0.52)” custom_padding=”5px|5px|5px|5px” z_index_tablet=”500″ border_radii=”on|5px|5px|5px|5px”]

COMMUNICATION: Enquire with your office how you would make calls to clients. If they provide an office mobile or if you can use your own mobile or home phone and claim deductions or claim expenses back from office.

If you use your own mobile, for Samsung mobile you can block caller id or hide your number for a single call by entering #31# before the number you wish to dial. If you are a iPhone user The quickest way to block your iPhone’s caller ID is to use the *67 trick, which is referred to as “star six seven”

Headset with mic

You might need a good headset or headphones with mic to take part in video conferencing and training from home or then listen to training packages, without disturbing people at home or keeping conversations confidential.

Most laptops have a built-in camera nowadays, but if your doesn’t then just get one from your office or a  portable webcam from the tech shop or online.

[/et_pb_testimonial][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built="1" _builder_version="3.22"][et_pb_row admin_label="Row" _builder_version="3.25" background_size="initial" background_position="top_left" background_repeat="repeat"][et_pb_column type="4_4" _builder_version="3.25" custom_padding="|||" custom_padding__hover="|||"][et_pb_testimonial portrait_url="https://www.digitalgrog.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/kimmy-kadashin.jpg" admin_label="Record Keeping of Expenses" _builder_version="4.4.2" z_index_tablet="500" border_color_top="#e02b20" border_width_all_portrait="2px" border_color_all_portrait="#e02b20"]

Record Keeping of Expenses

Keep records of your expenses incurred due to working from home so that you can claim it from your office or then claim deductions if allowed. It is easy not to get all the expenses claimed back, which is due if you don’t keep detailed records and receipts.

[/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_toggle title=”Plan your lunch or brekky in advance” open=”on” admin_label=”Plan your lunch or brekky in advance” _builder_version=”4.4.2″ background_color=”rgba(224,60,51,0.52)” custom_padding=”5px|5px|5px|5px” z_index_tablet=”500″ border_radii=”on|5px|5px|5px|5px”]

It is wise to plan your brekky and lunch in advance even though you are working from home to stop unnecessary interruptions at work, just like you would do so regularly. However, make sure you take your breaks.

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Kids at home” open=”on” admin_label=”Kids at home” _builder_version=”4.4.2″ background_color=”rgba(237,239,88,0.52)” custom_padding=”5px|5px|5px|5px” z_index_tablet=”500″ border_radii=”on|5px|5px|5px|5px”]

Set the rules. If you have kids at home while working, it can be difficult.  Have a sit-down conversation with your kids? Make them understand that you need minimal interruptions. Plan a daily routine for them as well, Learning time (online learning time), TV time and outdoor play time. Pre-plan activities for them to do.

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Good Internet connection” open=”on” admin_label=”Good Internet connection” _builder_version=”4.4.2″ background_color=”rgba(67,137,193,0.52)” custom_padding=”5px|5px|5px|5px” z_index_tablet=”500″ border_radii=”on|5px|5px|5px|5px”]

A good stress-free work time can be achieved with good internet connections and good connectivity. Make sure you test your laptop if set up to work from home first from your office before you bring it to home.

To avoid disconnections and lag while working – your office will need good virtual network set up, and also you will need a good internet connection. A good idea would be for your kids to not watch Netflix, YouTube videos or stream audio via internet during when you work – if this is possible.

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Work Start /End Timing” open=”on” admin_label=”Work Start /End Timing” _builder_version=”4.4.2″ background_color=”rgba(224,183,96,0.52)” custom_padding=”5px|5px|5px|5px” z_index_tablet=”500″ border_radii=”on|5px|5px|5px|5px”]

All companies or workplaces have different rules, though you can expect quite a few to be the same when it comes to work start and end times. You need to plan your start and finish times.

If you are working from home, you save the travel time. So, with that bonus, you could possibly start a bit early and finish early.  Some offices don’t allow you to accrue flex time, and some do, so if its allowed maybe you can work an extra half hour every day and accumulate some flex with an early start. If its not allowed, then you can still start early and finish early and get more time to your day.

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Psychology of working from home” open=”on” admin_label=”Psychology of working from home” _builder_version=”4.4.2″ background_color=”rgba(237,239,88,0.52)” custom_padding=”5px|5px|5px|5px” z_index_tablet=”500″ border_radii=”on|5px|5px|5px|5px”]

Many people will jump at the idea of working from home, not knowing what it entails or how they will cope. Some will succeed it doing it well, and some will fail miserably and not get much done affecting their productivity.

It is essential to know hat kind of work person you are to succeed, if you can get along just fine without an office formal atmosphere and work in your pyjamas that’s okay. But if you will find it hard to work in a casual home setting, maybe you will still need to dress (formals) and act the part to work from home. It’s all about getting your mind into the right frame of work.

The surging rise of AI technology

February 5, 2020 by admin 1 Comment

ai 2020 australia

We live in a digital era where technological advancement and rapid digitalisation positively rule. Look around you. Technological influence and rapid digitalisation are present in practically every avenue possible these days. Whether it is the Godox photography accessories available on the market or the introduction of intelligent technology that is geared towards propelling a vehicle without much (if any) manual input from the driver, technological advancement is well and truly here and making impressive impact on an ongoing basis.

There are many forms of technology out there that are impressive and are worth their weight in gold. Some of them are decidedly more valuable than others, purely for the reason that they are more broadly applicable and thus more easily utilised across the board. Of all the impressive feats in technological advancement to date, there is one that is breaking down barriers and performing exceptionally well across the board, even in its early stages. That branch of technology is none other than artificial intelligence.

The surging rise of AI capability and technology

Take the investments and rising interest in AI (artificial intelligence) for what they are worth (which is a lot, by the way). AI capabilities were once merely a plot point in movies and books, but today we are beginning to see AI technology become an instrumental force to be reckoned with in this digital era. This is just the beginning of AI implementation and growth, but it is a promising start that yields a hopeful result for the near future and beyond. We are seeing this technology brace for impact and then exceed expectations time and again.

Why AI is such a powerful branch of modern tech

ai robot

Essentially, AI is such a powerful branch of modern technology because it not only seeks to make life easier, but it actively and consistently takes charge and not only achieves that goal, but exceeds it by effectively taking control of some aspects of life altogether. Of course, this frees up more time for other areas of life to be manually taken care of by human action. This is a positive, and it is a positive that not nearly enough people are talking about or appreciating to its fullest degree.

What we can expect from AI technology in the future

AI is only getting bolder and smarter. This is a theme that is going to prove to be an ongoing theme and it is a theme that we must pay the utmost attention to. A technology like AI that is not only useful but highly intelligent is a technology that is gearing up to change the world in all the best and brightest of ways. From daily tasks to medical and environmental research and exploration, AI technology is a branch of modern technology that is changing the world – and will continue to do so – in all the most positive ways. We should be embracing AI technology entirely and without exception, and we are finally starting to do that.
