Listing of the Top WordPress Webhosting plans for 2018 – Features and Review

January 3, 2018 by admin 7 Comments

If you are looking  to start a wordpress blog or website  you need to check out  these web host’s that we have reviewed and listed below. I have  tried and tested 15 web-hosts until now for my website projects and below are some that I can recommend.

aussie webhosts

1

BEST SOFTWARE FOR WEBSITE BUILDING

WordPress, the world’s top content management system (CMS),  is a versatile and flexible blogging platform  that is simple to use by even beginners and can be customised extensively if needed. The software has one of the largest library of free and premium themes and plug-ins  to make the task of creating and managing your website a breeze. With this  CMS, you can build professional looking business websites, personal blogs  and even large entertainment and news portals like MTV and CNN has done with wordpress.

With word-press and a  good web hosting provider you can easily build a  small personal blog  to a large business website with  little to no skills. If you’ve thought about building a website, you should definitely consider a WordPress web host.

With the list below, there is a mix of Australian and US Webhosts that support WP hosting and “Managed wordpress hosting”. I have always used  US based hosts  due to their affordable  pricing  compared to some local aussie hosts and also the benefit of their easy website setup scripts for installing websites in minutes.

Below you can check out their features and plan prices  and choose for yourself.

2018: Price comparison Table for hosting companies

[table “7” not found /]

Choosing a “hosting company” for your blog or website is  a tough decision to make. You have  to consider  to cost of the web server plan, the value you will get,  the customer service  you can expect  among many other  smaller factors.

Hosting companies dont make it easy for you,  changing their prices and features included on a regular basis making it more difficult for you to compare  and choose among different hosts. So  what we have done is  drilled down to  a few of  top 10 hosts that are already listed above and given a little bit of an overview on them below.

Difference between hosting plans

Shared hosting

Shared hosting is one of the  most suitable plan  for  beginners  as  these plans  are normally cheap and yet have all the basic features that a  beginner blogger or webmaster needs. These plans are cheap because the servers provided are shared by many users and the load on servers is balanced.

Dedicated or VPS hosting

This is hosting that is better than shared, as you get more exclusive use of the servers and therefore the server speeds are a bit better than shared. The basic features are the same, but you get some more freedom with the server end features. If you have some technical knowledge of servers you can take advantage of some of these features, but these additional features are not necessary  for basic running of a website.

VPS servers generally allow root access and Dedicated plans allow customisation of  your hosting environment.

The benefit  for one of these plans would be for better speed and custom backend modifications of your website. Dedicated servers can be priced higher than a lot of  VPS plans. This hosting is often the next step upgrade from shared hosting.

Cloud and Managed wordpress hosts

Even though cloud and managed hosting is different. They both can be termed as managed hosting.

Cloud hosting is basically managed in the cloud automatically  and therefore  the main feature of this is that load balancing of your servers are all automated, to give your website the best performance according to your needs.

Managed wordpress hosting on the other hand is where the host has spent time  to modify the  server architecture to make you server optimised to load your website  quickly and keep it  running smooth and nicely with wordpress platform. They often have caching inbuilt with nginx. Some also provide CDNs with their hosting. This hosting is considered premium hosting and can cost more or even similar to dedicated.

Features that most hosting plans need

Disk storage
Disk storage Websites don’t need much storage and so you can see many providers offer unlimited storage. Most basic plans also have enough storage to run a couple of sites without any problems.
Uptime
Uptime This can differ from host to host, but if your host is offering an uptime of somewhere close to 99% you should be good. Watch out for hosts that can’t offer good uptime speeds, which means that your website won’t be available to your viewers occasionally when they have server problems.
Bandwidth
Bandwidth This is an important one; as more viewers to your website mean you use more bandwidth. More plugins and add-ons to your website mean more bandwidth.  Most shared plans have enough bandwidth  for a normal popular website, but you can upgrade if you really get popular and start getting like 5,000 hits a day( which can take a lot of time to achieve).

Best Rated Webhosting for Australia – Comparisons Price and Reviews

September 12, 2017 by admin

Based on our own usage and comparison reviews , we bring you the

2017 webhosting prices and comparison australia 2

The top website hosting for March 2018

As a blogger and website builder, I have used many webhosting companies including US and Australia based ones  to create websites and below is collection of some of the best that I would recommend for this year.

I have used over  20 companies to test out reliable providers over time and below are some of them that I would still gladly suggest to anyone in 2018.

Let’s check out our listing of best webhosts for 2017-18 after our analysis, review and comparison from the past few years to make it easier for you to make the right informed choice.

I have written a “recommended” against our tops pick of hosts, but feel free to choose which one suit’s you needs best.

[table “2” not found /]

Choosing a service provider to start your first website, online store or blog can be the most important step you take while building your business and its essential to do the right thing from the start.

Some of the important factors are the obvious – Site speed, Disk space, Ease of use, Flexibility, how many websites can I host on the webhosting-plan.

Australian Hosting or US hosting – what should i choose ?

How important is server location

server in australia for January February or march The  decision is always divided on this one, that is – if the server location should be in Australia or the US for your Australian based site. But I like to think that this decision is really  based of  the traffic that your beginner blog will attract.

If you are going  to get 100 % off all your traffic from Australia ,it makes sense to get an Australian host, but the truth is 90% of the websites always get a lot of traffic from the US, even if they are Australian based  and so  it makes sense to get a cheaper US host.

Keep in mind that most Australian hosting providers are more expensive than their US counterparts so this will definitely make a difference to your budget.

What Plan is good for me ?

Most of the plans listed here  are  suitable for beginner websites as well as established websites. These shared plans while cheap can still easily take upto 2000 to 3,000 hits a day and function  smoothly, so you don’t need to upgrade for a while at least.

Some starter plans allow just one  website, so  choose the correct plan if you think you are going to start more than 1 website. Most shared plans allow you to host multiple websites with  1 hosting account purchase.

Once you are doing big numbers like 3000 + hits a day it is wise  to consider new hosting or then  getting CDN services which are a cheaper upgrade for higher traffic. If you get a CDN  add-on  once you start getting higher traffic you can still use your existing host and still enjoy faster speeds.

Price of wordpress Hosting

There is no  fixed price  for  hosting  as companies run deals all the time, which we update over here, but generally  the price range for  hosting is anywhere  between $3.45 to $5.95 a month, though when there are special deals you can get prices going down as low as $1 month, $1.95 a month  or as high as $7.99 month to $11 a month and this is all for the starter plans  or shared hosting.

As soon as  you talk about VPSs , dedicated, Cloud  and managed  hosting plans  the prices  start from $11 and upwards. There are some premium WP hosts that  charge upto $30,000 a month for high traffic plans  with CDN etc inbuilt.

What is CDN services?

Its just a service that  routes your traffic via the fastest route to your audience or website visitors, keeping your blog or webpage fast.It normally costs between $3 to $4 a month  depending on which provider you go with. CDN’s are Quite popular today  for blogs that have traffic spikes.

Different Kinds of hosting services

There are three main types of hosting:

  1. Cheap Shared Hosting
  2.  VPS Hosting
  3.  Dedicated Hosting & Managed or optimised Hosting

For most of those reading this, you’ll want to go for the cheap web hosting type (shared hosting), as it’s perfect for small to medium sized businesses.

However if  you want to go one step further  and get a little more bang for your buck, then you can choose a VPS or Dedicated plan by clicking a  link and then exploring more plans on the seller website. There are shared plans, then  starter plans , Pro plans  all named differently with every different provider.

There are different plans like Linux hosting plans  and Windows Hosting plans, but they both do a excellent job of  displaying your wordpress website , irrespective of all this technical jargon.

One click Install for WordPress

1 click install for webs and cpanel for july august or septemberSetting up your  first website-Or-blog will be something that you will always remember  and its best to hope for it  to be a good experience.  I would definitely suggest a host that makes the process easier  with easy to install automated scripts  to set up your blog yourself.

Bluehost and Godaddy has a customised install process and  they have “1 click install”. With this custom install process – you can  install a new wordpress site in as quick as 10 minutes with just a few clicks.

There is step by step instructions given to you through the install process via the admin dashboard, to make the website installing as easy as possible and that is why my top recommendations are for these two webhosts.

Cpanel the Hosting and  WordPress backend

The backend for the hosting account is the cpanel admin area. This is where you can get a bit technical and adjust things further, like get detailed stats for your blog. Set up FTP access. Peek into your SQL database and php admin area. Change admin passwords  and do heaps of other stuff.

But messing around in this area is not necessary, as you could do easily do most of the basic and important stuff like adding graphics and content from the front end of your website.

WordPress as a website builder

WordPress is a very versatile  website building software. Once you install your  wordpress site you can  change the look/design of your blog in one click  by changing the wordpress theme or template.

You get thousands of free templates via the wordpress admin area. If you want a robust  and well supported professional looking template design – you can also buy premium template designs from online sellers.

WordPress uses a system called plugins to add functionality to your website. You can easily add many functionalities by adding free WP plugins available in the free word-press marketplace or then again you can just buy some premium plugins for  adding further functionality.

The flexibility is there, to use either free or paid wp themes with your site and any plugins you choose to enhance  your wp site functionality is a bonus with these wordpress hosting-plans listed above.

No software is easier that WP software for building a website quickly and easily  and that is why this software has become one of the topmost used software for website building. Popular websites like  CNN,  SONY, MTV and BBC America also use them.

Most of them providers I have listed above do cover most of these features that are needed for your webpage/site.

Not many people  focus on ease of use and flexibility when choosing a service provider – but these are very important factors to consider while signing up for a new hosting plan to set up your new blog or site/shop.

Bluehost and Godaddy have millions of user’s setting up their first online-website by themselves and have made it the easiest process to do it yourself.  They can also be considered “cheap web hosting providers”  when their deals are on.

Saying that tho, the rest are not far behind in pricing and most providers will provide you a quick click and install process to get started with a professional WordPress(WP) website.

Is wordpress free to use ?

free to use software for april may or juneYes  word press is free software by itself  and can be used by anybody, the problem is that  if you want  to get it working  from your own pc as a server, you will have to go through a lot of technical settings  like DNS adjustments,  routing domain names   which will be through your pc .

Most providers  already have their custom built installers for  wp  and so provide provide wp as a 1 click install With hosting for the easy building of your WP blog/website.

Most of the above providers allow you to build your website with wordpress and also have many other website platforms like joomla, Drupal and many more.

Choose from the best web hosting plans for 2018: Australia Vs US Hosting

February 19, 2017 by admin

Below is a detailed listing of webhosting companies with prices and features. This will help  you get started on your new journey if your creating a new business website or just a personal blog.

Godaddy Australia

If you are on a budget and price matters to get you started, you might want to try the current Godaddy deal- Click here above

Our recommendation is for Bluehost – Current deal here for a WordPress website or blog  and WP-Engine if your starting a business website – Current deal here.

Pricing table with an Table ID of "compare7hosts" is not defined.

Hosting Comparison – Australia Or US Host ?

Hosting in Australia is significantly more expensive than most other places in the world. Most of it comes down to some of the high cost of labour in Australia and of course infrastructure/backhaul internet/DC fees.

Latency is not the most important aspect of the loading times between here and the US and should be considered if you are running a high traffic website.

australia

Often when comparing how fast a server is providing content, factors like comparing the application stack, use of hardware load balancers, caching, CDN’s server technology etc are not taken into account when it should be.

Does US hosting IP affect my website ranking?

Search engines like google base their algorithms on a number of factors, one of them being the IP address location. Getting a country TLD domain can help, such as a .com.au domain for a business website or blog targeting Australian viewers.

Overseas hosting can still get results  by using proper SEO techniques and Google tweaks, like logging into the google search engine webmaster tools and telling them who your target market is.

A US host with a CDN can also help, if you want to go one step further by speeding up your loading time further and getting a nearby network point to your country.

Webhosting Acronyms Glossary and Meanings

Below is many words related to website hosting and managing. It is acronyms, features and just about a glossary for website related terms. This might be helpful when you are trying to make sense of terms when you build your first website or purchase services to create your first blog or webpage.

CMS – Content Management System is a program used to publish, edit and modify content on a given websites. CMS is often used to run websites containing blogs, news and shopping sites.

SSL – Secure Socket Layer is a cryptographic protocol that was designed to provide communication security over the internet.

Disk Space – The amount of space allocated to you on the server to store files, pages, emails, and more.

Uptime – The amount of time the server is uninterrupted and your website is accessible. This is typically shown as a percentage. You want a high uptime (99% and above) so as not to disrupt access to your site

Reseller Hosting – Where a block of server resources is sold to an individual for purposes of using it to host multiple domains under their own name

Control Panel – The control panel is the central hub for a web hosting account. This is where the user modifies and controls all aspects of their web hosting such as adding new domains and sub domains, uploading web pages and installing server applications

PHP – Hypertext Pre-Processor is a server-side scripting language designed for the development of websites and can also be used as a general-purpose programming language

Add-domain – It is additional domains which can be createed from the main domain control panel without having a separate hosting account. It had all features just like a main domain, but with no cPanel control.

Sub-domain – A subdomain is a subsection of your website that can exist as a new website without a new domain name. Use subdomains to create memorable URLs for different content areas of your site.

20 Top brands with affilate programs to make you money in 2019

January 2, 2017 by admin

join microsoft affiliate program

Updated 7 May 2019. If you are a  blogger or online marketer, how happy would you be to see this email, and I was too when I received that email from microsoft.

Not only  have I been using  – the useful Microsoft  programs for years  like windows  Office ( word , excel , publisher , one note, office 360 ), but now I also have the opportunity  to promote them as an affiliate and make some money.

Microsoft is  a Big brand that sells itself and so I just need to position myself  to the right audience. This is what affiliate marketing and internet marketing is all about- selling online and making money.

If you run a blog then you will need to know how to make money and if you want to make money you will first >> need to make a blog.

Doing blogging for a passion is all right, but earning some money on the side could always be a bonus. There are top bloggers who make a passive income  of upto $40,000 a year (some in a month) just by promoting affiliate programs( Pat Flynn is an example) and then there are some who make even more.

If you have a blog or website or then planning to start a new blog/website –  Why not take advantage of some good established big brands to make yourself some money as well.

I have written a detailed comparison  of website hosting providers who make it easy to create a blog easily over here, if you are a beginner looking to start a blog or website. I have also listed  some great hosting options and  word press resources below if your want to get started with a website.

But first lets go ahead and check out some  Australian affiliate programs that can make you money.

crazydomains.com.auaffiliates

[pic from crazydomains affiliate program]

Why big brands?

Because its Easy to sell, Big brands are well known and already earned that good will so why not take advantage of it . All you need to do, is provide the information that the customer is seeking  and a little bit more  to stand out from your competition and then add a decent call to action (purchase) and you could get a sale soon.

Off course it it is an unknown brand, then it makes  this job  a little bit harder to sell a product on your blog-website.

In this post I am going to list some top brands that can help you make money from your blog and also some tips on how to earn some money with these established brands.

You don’t need to be a professional affiliate marketer or internet marketer today to make some money from your website. All you need is a good blog with some decent traffic.

How to join these affiliate programs

There are many affiliate program companies that bring together lots of top brand companies to promote under their one program and so you can sign up with this company  to promote many rather than signing up individually with every top brand.

offers listed on Commission Junction

Some top affiliate program companies  that represent top brands are Commission Junction (CJ), Share a sale (www.shareasale.com), Maxbounty , Amazon associates, Ebay Network and Peerfly.

There are also smaller companies like Clickbank and Neverblue and Offer vault that offer digital downloads and CPA programs.

The advantage of signing up with aggregated publisher/seller program like commission junction is that –  it becomes easier to sign up with just one account with them  to get approval to promote multiple big brand products on their list. Otherwise you would have to sign up individually with each individual top brand website to promote them.

ShareASale network comprises of more than 3800 merchants

There are some top brands that still decide to run their own affiliate programs via their own website and so you might still need to sign up directly with the company reseller/partner/affiliate program.

I have had some success with promoting some products via an Australian affiliate program website, however I find the US based Commission junction and some other direct affiliate programs much more beneficial and also professional in their customer support.

Below are some Australian affiliate programs and below are also some US based affiliate companies. As this list is about affiliate networks, you will find some of my affiliate links in this post as well as direct links to affiliate programs or direct product websites.

This list is not extensive and there will be affiliate programs that I have not covered here and I will most probably add on more to it as we go, but do let me know if you have had some good experience with any affiliate networks – Australian or US/UK based

5 Tips for success with top brands affiliate programs

1. Target your niche. Even if you are promoting top brands, you won’t have as much success unless your website is also related to  the niche you are promoting. Say you are promoting Itunes mp3s – you would have a better chance earning commissions if your blog is about music and entertainment .

I would recommend Rosalind Gardner  who is a super affiliate and has helped many into  their online affiliate marketing careers, she has two guides that she sells – one is called the “Affiliate Blogger Pro” and the other one is an in depth  affiliate guide called – “Super Affiliate: How I Made $436,797 In One Year which covers how to start Your Own Home-based Affiliate Marketing Business.

These guides will surely teach  you how to go about and start earning  with affiliate marketing or  increase your existing blog income

2. Your blog posts need to be helpful to your target audience and stand out or reach out to your audience.

3.You need targeted traffic to the products you are promoting , say if you are writing about songs and new albums , people should be searching google, bing, yahoo for new songs, new release albums and landing on your blog.

4. Your blog should look professional or presentable. The design of your blog  or the theme should suit your niche. Say it’s a recipe blog, get a professional looking recipe theme or design. Looks  do matter.

5. Create a personal rapport with your audience and speak to them directly, use (you) , (I ) and (them – affiliates) in your blog articles and posts.

6. Use similar web to see what keywords your top brands are ranking for and try to get similar but not same keywords to rank for in search engines. A good paid program for spying on other people’s websites and keywords is also SEMRUSH, which is a premium program

7. Bonus -Don’t ever forget your call to action, even in a blog post

Tools to promote affiliate Links :

Often many top affiliate programs provide tools for you to promote their products like an affiliate Link Maker, a Widget Builder to make widgets for your blog, RSS Feed Generator and a API for data feeds.

They also provide ready-made Banners in different sizes and linking codes that you can just copy and paste onto your website or blog.

Coupons are a great way for promotion and businesses now are providing discount coupons which make it easier to promote some products to the consumers. There are also custom plugins that make the inserting links into blog  process easy on your blog.

How to link out to affiliate program links from your blog

Most top bloggers use wordpress plugins to link to affiliate products, while this is a good tactic it can often backfire  as some affiliate programs do not allow this.

Make sure you read the terms and conditions or  check with affiliate network before you do this, otherwise you could make sales and lose that commission. I would suggest that you actually take a online course from Affilorama.  Mark Ling  who started this, is a great Internet marketer and if you want to do  affiliate marketing , the affilorama course will give you a solid training.

Some popular wordpress plugins for managing affiliate links are:

1. Prettylink – lite Free and premium versions https://wordpress.org/plugins/pretty-link/

2. Thirsty affiliates – http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-add-affiliate-links-in-wordpress-with-thirstyaffiliates/

3. Seo ultimate plugin – It has a nice affiliate linking module in thier seo plugin

You can also use php redirects or add some code to redirect affiliate links on your website yourself, check out this blog post by Rosalind and check out another tutorial here and a video tutorial below .

Google advices to use No follow for your affiliate links , so you can do that easily. Below is a no follow example

No follow example :

<a href="https://www.digitalgrog.com.au/mysaleaffilaitelink.html" rel="nofollow">sign in</a>

Or

<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.functravel.com/">Cheap Flights</a>

Many top bloggers earn a full time income from passive income earned from affiliate networks and you can too with your own blog . The basic principle is increase your targeted traffic for the product your are promoting and make unique and helpful content in that niche  and you will be successful.

If you think I have missed out on any good affiliate networks in this list, do email  me or comment below. Cheers/jeff

[24/7/365, round-the-clock customer care operations and good phone support]

Not many websitehosting companies now days give an offer where you can get both a domain and a hosting for free at the same time, so this offer is particularly appealing if you’re starting a new blog or then looking for a second hosting account to start a second website or blog.

Youtube video for blog setup from howtoblogtv

[Video on how to set up blog with godaddy]

Both webhosting providers support the most popular blogging software wordpress, which can be installed quickly with a 1 click install. They also support many other blog software scripts, forums scripts and image galleries scripts, if you want to host something other than a blog.

The most important bit is that , you can install more than 1 blog on your hosting account so If you suddenly decide to get another domain name and start a new second blog, you don’t need to buy another hosting account.

The above listed hosting plans prices from these two providers are for a monthly basis, but are charged on a yearly basis, so you will have to calculate the total costs on a yearly basis. Plans are also available for a pay as you go monthly basis, but then the prices are a bit pricier than the ones listed above.

Guide – Building a wordpress blog in 3 steps and more https://t.co/nQGKpA0Mm7 pic.twitter.com/SEosYW3lxa

— DigitalGrog (@undermarrest) April 20, 2018

Why are these Hosting and domain plans so cheap?

These bloghosting providers normally can afford to give these low prices only due to offering these plans to new customers and making money from customers over the longer term, when they extend their contracts. The advertised price is only for the first year, and then it switches back to normal renewal prices a few dollars more. You have the options at that time to switch to a new hosting provider to then remain as a customer with your existing website-host.

Dedicated servers Vs shared plans

These plans are cheaper because the y are shared hosting plans and not dedicated servers or VPS servers which are a bit more costly and not shared servers. The dedicated and Vps servers are generally quite speedy and more exclusive. However if your just starting out with a website or blog, these shared plans will easily serve your purpose at a reasonable price. These above two provided hosting plans are currently cheaper than most other popular shared plans.

Bluehost and go daddy also offer great tips and blogging and website guides on their blog https://garage.godaddy.com/ and http://www.bluehost.com/blog/ blogs and they also offer server checking status tools to check your server status

Hosting of your blog or website is considered the backbone of your blog and one of the main factors that keeps your blog running smoothly without glitches and if you get this important factor wrong with a bad hosting provider, you could be missing out on valuable traffic from your viewers due to dodgy servers that are slow or then having server issues. Make sure you check the uptime of your websitehost; Bluehost and godaddy have a good uptime rating and have just upgraded their servers so speed is also good. digitalgrog special offer small

Right now you can get a free domain name with both of them so both deals are good; however godaddy is beating bluehost on price. Bluehost though does have more scripts/software to install and choose from in their hosting panel and have a much more user friendly administration panel.

[ Note: Digitalgrog is a Bluehost/ Hostgator/ Hostmonster/ Godaddy /Dreamhost/Ipage affiliate partner and we also have hosting accounts with these services, which means that in addition to using their service, we also receive a commission for referring new customers. To be fair, though, we would still use  any of these Hosting services , but do have a preference  for some  and so we have done a full review of all the hosting  partners we use. Ergo, we don’t recommend Bluehost or any featured host just because we’re an affiliate (every hosting company offers a similar affiliate program and you could pick any of them ), but we recommend Bluehost because they are the best, most reliable option. Plus, because we’re a partner, Bluehost offers a special price for digitalgrog.com.au readers: only $3.49 a month and you already have our godaddy $1 special above. That’s a phenomenal price. Links provided above will take you to  the latest updated promo deals. Feel free to pick which host suits your budget or preference and good luck 🙂 ]

Guide: How to install a WordPress Blog Theme

December 13, 2015 by admin

If you are a new blogger, it is essential you know about wordpress website themes and how to install one on your blog. Installing a theme on a word press website is not hard at all and I will give you a detailed tutorial and guide below.

However if you are searching for a Full tutorial on how to install and start a wordpress blog  then please check out his tech blog post here.

installing a wp theme via login to admin panel

Installing a good wordpress website premuim theme  can  create a lot of trust in your  blog audience and you  are much more likely to get repeat  viewers/subscribers  if you back it up with good  and interesting content and relevant pics on your blog.

For those who are entirely new to this:

What is a WordPress theme?

It’s essentially is a way to “skin” your blog. You could say its like a dress, you change the dress and the blog looks different. You could make your website look like a recipe blog, A photography blog just by changing its theme (design) in just a few clicks. It can also be called as a template or premade custom design.

The WordPress Theme Directory is the official site for WordPress Free themes. There are Custom designers or programmers can charge $500 and upwards for a design, while you can get pre made designs for as low as $10 for a WP design , or annual memberships that are as low as $79 for 80 + premium themes or then it can also go as high as $250 a Wp Theme.

The theme as such merely changes the look and design of the blog and not how the WordPress-CMS works.

Installing or Adding New and Paid WordPressThemes using the Admin Dashboard

You can download Themes directly to your blog by using the Add New Themes option in the Appearance sub-menu within your word-press.

1. Log in to the WordPress Administration Panels.

2. Select the Appearance panel, then Themes.

appearance in themes login wor wordpress admin panel

3. Select Add New.

2 add new themes upload and search installed themes

4. Either use the Search or Filter options to locate a free or paid theme you uploaded that  you would like to use.

5. Click on the Preview link to preview the Theme or the Install Now link to upload the Theme to your blog,

theme in a .zip format, you may install it by uploading 4

6. Or use the Upload link in the top links row to upload a zipped copy of a Theme that you have previously downloaded to your machine

Paid Vs Free themes

WordPress currently comes with three themes that you can install from within the blog  and their default themes are Twenty Fifteen theme, and previous defaults Twenty Fourteen theme and Twenty Thirteen theme.

I recommend Three paid themes providers that I know are of value in price and quality as I have been using them for  8+ years now. They are listed below

Solostream themes – www.solostream.com

They are very robust  themes that are built from the ground up using proper wp architecture and hardly need any updating , besides they have very flexible advertising options  to use banners or affiliate links –which you can turn off if you don’t want to use. They look very professional and can integrate all your social media buttons

Elegant themes –  www.elegantthemes.com

They are premium themes and have the best pricing  on the internet for wordpress themes, you just pay $79 and you can use any of their 80+ WP premium themes on how many  ever blogs you want. They have a wide range of themes from e-stores , to recipe blogs themes and much more.

Themeforest – www.themeforest.net

They not only have themes but also have a vast collection of wp plugins  and scripts. They also have templates for free blogging platforms like , blogpsot , tumblr any many more. They have  templates starting from $5  right upto $200+

I prefer to used paid themes, because  they are updated much more regularly, specially if any security hole is found out , you get an immediate update. While free themes are not often updated and so can also break with word press updates and therefore break your blog.

Installing new themes via CPanel or then FTP

To add a paid theme to your WordPress installation via Cpanel, here are the steps:

Most webhosting companies offer a cPanel control panel, and most paid themes come in a .zip or .gz archive. This is assuming that your theme-download is a compressed (.zip) file containing a folder under which all the Theme files exist in.

1. Download the Theme .zip file to your computer.

2. In cPanel File Manager, find and go to your Themes folder. If your WordPress is installed in the root folder of your web server you would navigate to “public_html/wp-content/themes” and if you have WordPress installed in a sub-folder called wordpress or named something else , you would navigate to “public_html/wordpress or something else /wp-content/themes”.

3. Find the Themes folder in cPanel File Manager, click on Upload file(s) and upload that .zip file from step 1

4. Once the .zip file is uploaded, click on the name of that file in cPanel, then in the panel to the right, click on “Extract File Contents”, and that .zip file will be uncompressed in your wp installation and ready to use.

5. Just login to your blog via admin panel – got to appearances themes and select the theme you uploaded and click activate. Your new theme is installed on your blog and ready.

To add a paid theme to your WordPress installation via FTP, here are the steps:

1. Download the Theme archive (normally zip file) and extract the files it contains. Do not change the the directory structure in the archive when extracting these files. Check if any special installing guidelines are provided by your Theme author in this directory.

2. Using an FTP Software – login to your hosting web server. Your hosting company should have given you this ftp login details when you installed your blog and created a ftp login.

3. Upload the Theme files you extracted to the wp-content/themes directory on your host server. Your this folder will now have different theme folders Eg recipe theme, elegant tech theme under this main theme folder.

4. Once the theme is uploaded to directory, just login to your blog via admin panel – got to appearances themes and select the theme you uploaded and click activate. Your new theme is installed on your blog.
