You would be surprised to know that some websites pay $20,000 a month for hosting of their website. That’s expensive and many bloggers cannot afford that kind of hosting money.

For many top entertainment and news websites like CNN, MTV their daily traffic can be in the hundred thousand and sometimes even million hits a day for really popular websites.

You would be surprised to know that many of these websites also use WordPress CMS like any small time blogger. But you won’t find them using cheap shared hosting plans like go daddy ($1), bluehost or site ground, like many of us beginner bloggers use.

These websites even though they are using wordpress, they need the hosting servers with the big guns so to speak. Their bandwidth requirements are humongous and they have large spikes in traffic on a regular basis.

Portals like these can go through quite a few up and downs in speed and bandwidth needs, when possibly any of their hundreds of content pieces happen to go viral.

You could imagine large sites like these would churn out hundreds of articles and videos on a daily basis. These websites need constant looking after to make sure everything is running right and loading fast to their viewers.

On large sites like these, you can find people watching hundreds of videos, filling in thousand forms a day for competitions, hundreds of signups for memberships perhaps, and thousands of downloads for a screensaver or a pdf file tutorial. It could be anything like these and these actions use data and bandwidth.

As you would imagine, different websites get traffic usage through different offerings or downloads offered and these all use huge bandwidth and so you need a reliable hosting server.

While we beginner and established bloggers often pay as less as $1 a month for hosting, these websites can pay anywhere from $25,000 to even $50,000 a month for web-hosting. They do get premium service like dedicated engineers looking after the website, 24 /7 monitoring and many more premium services that we would not get on a budget shared plan.

AMAZON AWS

The two products/services you can use from Amazon AWS for your wordpress website is called “Amazon EC2” and “Amazon S3”.

Because of the technical nature of how amazon servers are organised, you will need a skilled website developer to setup your website with amazon hosting servers.

Amazon EC2

Amazon EC2 is the product from Amazon AWS that allows you to host your WordPress website. Amazon EC2 allows you to configure and scale your websites needs and capacity easily to meet changing requirements and demand.

Amazon EC2 pricing is based on four components: the instance type you choose (EC2 comes in 40+ types), the region your instances are based in, the software you run, and the pricing model you select (on-demand instances, reserved capacity, spot, etc.).

The pricing for Amazon AWS is a bit complex compared to other hosting providers.

Example: Let’s say you decide to host your WordPress website on one Linux t2.large EC2 instance in the US East region. With an on-demand pricing model, your monthly charge for EC2 will be $76.13.

Rackspace has Australian servers and have a mix of entry level word-press plans and high capacity enterprise plans as well. They provide root access to their cloud server hosting for word-press.

Entry level Hosting is $128 a month

Pricing similar to enterprise plans can be anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000 a month based on your server requirements.

However most high traffic hosting service providers, give you a set of basic features with every plan. Below are some typical features to look out for in the high ticket plan you are purchasing

Many large Internet companies (Amazon, Facebook, and Google, for example) often do run (primarily, if not exclusively) their own data centres because they want/require more control over their data, technology, and costs.

Another tool/service to see who is self-hosting is “Netcraft’s Search Web by Domain” because they list netblock owners.

I needed to integrate a “AMAZON ASTORE” into a self hosted wordpress site as a test on one of my websites. I trawled and searched the internet for ways to best put in the “amazon astore” to match my blog theme and design of this blog. [updated 18 jan 2016]

I came across this site “ Robin Maluau – rockstar now geek” and “ Kristella’s blog” that gave me some useful but more technical tips. These tips could probably wont make sense to some , as you ned to have some technical knowledge to understand their jargon. Since they had published those useful posts and tips for getting a Amazon store to work with wordpress and blogger , blogger and wordpress itself has changed and got updated. These updates to new versions have made “integrating you amazon Astore into your blog or website more easy” than ever.

Before i got much deeper into creating a Amazon store within your blog –

Here is some basic info on amazon store and making money

An amazon store is a quick store that you can build online for free with amazon to sell products and earn a commission when a product gets sold. You need to register with amazon as a affiliate to get this started. You dont need to make a Amazon store to sell products, you can just insert your affilaite link to the product on your blog or website and if a person clicks on that links and buys something you earn a commission.

How Do I Get Started?

1. If you are not a member of the Associates program, start by joining the program.
2. If you are already a member of the Associates program, visit the aStore section of Associates Central.

So, I had the job of updating this wordpress blog/website “www.australianpropertymarket.com.au” with a Amazon product store, so I did a bit of research on the internet and found many articles – some useful – most outdated. I decided to work it out on my own and managed to get a Amazon store nicely working with wordpress, just by copying and pasting code provided by amazon into wordpress. Its that simple now !! ( however this task was made easy with my blog theme solostream – which has integration options to make this task easier )

How to make a amazon store in WordPress ?

I will show you how to integrate “your amazon store” in few easy steps with a basic wordpress site .

Make sure you change the theme while making the amazon astore to match your store theme colours.

I am assuming that you already signed up as a affilaite with amazon and can now create a Astore through your account .

Next Step.

Create the Astore in amazon and get the inline frame embed link like above.

Click the html/text button where you write content and paste the embed code you got from amazon into the page Next – Click save

Now go to page attributes on your right and switch the page template column to “page template – no sidebars” so that your amazon sidebar is the only sidebar that’s seen on the theme.

Some themes block this feature to not have the regular sidebar option , and you might have to mess around further with their code to get this option installed or then just get the Solsotream theme that I use it will make the process easier) .

Here is another example of australian book website page on a standard wordpress template but without the Amazon sidebar ( adjusting the width and height dimension in the inline embed frame code of amazon will get you this type of amazon page) .

The theme used on the Australian property website is the same theme that is being used by my blog as well and you can get a $10 discount currently on this solostream theme , Solostream Themes are quite robust and SEO friendly and I do recommend them, you can read a review of some of the themes i recommend over here , but Solostream themes has been one of my favorites for years.

Y0u can further mess around with the amazon code for width and height and change size as necessary or then change the page attributes while generating the embed code Or manually to suit your design. You can also place a link on your blog menu to your “amazon page” to promote it.

You can follow a similar way to get this “amazon page on blogger” . I will post a tutorial how to integrate Amazon Astore on blogger when i get some spare time.

This Guy bought Million dollar Google.com for just $12 dollars

Domain Names Sell for as low as 0.99 cents to $35.6 million just for internet domain name. Google.com which is probably worth millions of dollars got accidentally sold to a buyer last week for a very small fee this week, possibly leaving many google employees redfaced. In fact insurance .com did sell for $35.6million (yep just for the name www.insurance.com) in 2010.

How did google lose google.com domain name for just $12

In one of the weirdest stories I’ve ever read online a guy called Sanmay Ved has detailed how he was able to use Google’s own domain service to buy Google.com for just $12.

Apparently Sanmay was playing around in Google Domains just to see if there was any interesting domains he could buy. He searched google.com and was surprised that it was available. He could not believe his luck and instantly just purchased the domain without thinking about it. He then decided to add it to his cart and check out and realised all he needed to pay was just the small amount of $12 to own one of the most popular names on the internet.

While this story is as unbelievable as it is, like hitting a gold mine, the joy didn’t last for long. The domain was for a short time was actually registered to Sanmay Ved, as it showed in his Google Webmaster Tools with his existing domain and he also received a set of emails from Google accounts, the details of which he hasn’t disclosed.

Surprisingly he did say that that he had not received similar emails for previous domain purchases.

What happened next was expected, Google managed to reverse the transaction and sanmay was refunded the $12 he spent for the domain and the domain name went back to google.

It is said that this obviously could be done easily because google domains owns the registration service, however had another big registrar like godaddy.com ( which sells domains names for currently as low as 0.99 cents ) or Bing.com or yahoo.com had laid their hands on such a nice prize it would have been another story altogether.

The Near-Future Role of A SEO

A SEO’s role is always changing and adapting ever since webmasters were optimizing sites in the mid-1990’s. With every technological change and every Google algorithm update, a SEO’s job changes little by little. In the near future, a SEO’s role will not become more specialized, but broader. SEO’s will need to widen their scope of skills in order to stay competitive. A SEO’s job will revolve around these three main roles:

1. Search Engine Compliance Officer

The Search Engine Compliance Officer’s primarily responsible will be overseeing and managing Search Engine compliance issues within an organization. This is the role that will be most important for corporations and enterprises to have. The job will be much similar to what it is now, knowing all of Google and Bing’s Webmaster guidelines, and making sure that all things on a site are compliant to those guidelines.

The Search Engine Compliance Officer would be the “first line of defense” against Search Engine penalties. Any new additions to the site must pass the SEO before being pushed live (new pages, new content, tools, categories, sections, tagging, etc), moreover, a SEO should also be present during any meetings of new additions to a site to make sure that that integration is being completed well within a Search Engine’s guidelines and best preferred practices.

The SEO will also need to make sure that all incoming backlinks are compliant with a Search Engine’s policies. SEOs will need to monitor and investigate:

· How the backlink was obtained to make sure that it was not purchased

· The anchor text of the link and comparing it to the anchor text breakdown of the entire link profile

· The “spamminess” of a link

· Whether a banner ad or sponsored link has been nofollowed

· The top level IP’s of links to make sure that they are not apart of a link farm or link scheme
